The once-bustling downtown streets had become a hellscape. Burning vehicle wrecks were everywhere. Torn flesh and innards littered the ground, and hundreds, maybe thousands, of bloodstained zombies staggered through the streets. One zombie lay sprawled on the hood of a sedan, greedily gnawing on a human leg.

Dan gripped a machete in his hand, but it was useless against mutated zombies. Just as one of them lunged forward, about to bite through Dan’s neck, I stood on the second-floor balcony, holding a cup of coffee, calmly looking down at the scene below. “Ruth,” I said lightly, “they’re too loud.” From the shadows behind me, Ruth stepped forward and simply glanced down at the yard. “Boom!” In an instant, the zombies were crushed flat against the ground by the overwhelming force of gravity. The sound of bones shattering rang out, and a moment later, they were all reduced to pulp.

The Butcher-Zombies, previously staggering from the frequency, suddenly stopped. Their glowing red eyes and sensitive noses were now locked onto the Indomie-scented meat pile. Grrr... A swarm of doctor, nurse, and patient zombies poured through the smashed doorway all at once. The mutated zombie stretched out its two heads and immediately locked onto Hayley in the far corner of the room. With a loud crash, it shoved the zombies blocking its path aside. Two legs and four arms hit the ground at the same time. It fixed its aim on Hayley and launched itself into the air. Three yards. Two yards. One yard. Half a yard… Just as the mutated zombie was about to grab her, Hayley sprang upward and slipped perfectly into the ventilation duct above.

They just kept coming. "They are zombies!" Jack screamed, reloading. "Tech-zombies!" Sebastian didn't have a weapon heavy enough. He looked at the Nullifier. He looked at Harper. "Do it!" Harper slammed her hand onto the needle. STAB. The machine woke up. HUUUUUUUM. A low, deep vibration began to fill the room. The skulls on the walls started to chatter. "It needs time to charge!" Braun yelled, throwing a Molotov cocktail (made from rubbing alcohol) at the horde. "We have to buy her two minutes!"

When the last zombie dropped dead, only our ragged breathing remained in the lab. Fortunately, we had stocked up on ammunition and weapons before setting out, and we were in better shape than before. That was the only reason we made it out unscathed.
