LARRY: “That’ll melt half the country. We’ll get sponsors, investors, pity votes. And when the board starts leaning my way again… boom. I take back the company.” Anita scribbled it all down, her mouth tight. She didn’t like the way he was smiling. But she had learned long ago to keep her thoughts quiet around men like Larry. After Anita left, Larry stood in front of the mirror, straightened his collar, and took one last admiring look at himself. “Both women played their part beautifully,” he muttered. “Audrey, the little firecracker. June, the perfect fallen angel.” He raised his glass to the reflection.

My eyes widened again. “You're being dramatic, Laura. I'm used to it, it's no news to us, the less privileged ones.” Larry said. He never calls me by name, I knew he was angry, so I calmed my voice, sighing softly. “I'm worried about you, Larry. You're the only one I have left now in my life, I wouldn't want to loose you too.” I purred, pulsing my lips, and he snorted from the other end.

I told her. "Mom", she finally called. "Larry adores Ellah." I didn't know the point she was driving at. When Larry asked her out, I really wished she accepted him. I know Larry to be a good man, though playful but when she said she didn't feel a thing for him, I gave up. I expected Larry to keep pestering her but the asshole left. "Yeah. He was a good man." Then I laughed. "He was even hitting on you while you were pregnant. He's such an asshole and to be honest, I missed him."

Larry went to where he kept Pedro with a knife alongside Garry. The sound of door being shut woke Pedro up. He moved back when he saw the duo. Oh,no. Larry squatted beside him and smirked taking his finger. "Good morning,uncle." "Please...I beg of you..have mercy..." "When you're instructing the boys to beat me up,did you exercise mercy?"he asked. Pedro sniffed. "No?then,why the hell are you telling me to exercise mercy?" Pedro blinked. "Which one should go first,your eyes or your fingers?"Larry asked void of emotions.

Larry his best friend and best man wouldn’t keep quiet. He grumbled unbothered by his friends words “Don’t bother me Larry, no matter how beautiful she might be, I don’t see the reason why I have to like her. She is my father’s preferred wife and it will remain that way. I swore never to settle down with anybody, otherwise why do you think people call me a womanizer?”

Fred said the moment they turned into the village road. "Don't call me Mr. Luther. I can't get used to that. Just call me Damian," Damian said with a grin. Fred's heart jolted in excitement as he happily claimed, "Sure thing, Damian! By the way, my name is Fred Lane. I just got discharged from the military last year. You can call me Freddie." He was pretty thrilled. There was a world of difference between using either Mr. Luther or Damian. If he used Mr. Luther, it meant they had a strictly work relationship. But if he used Damian instead, it meant they were closer than just a superior and his subordinate. It was no wonder he was excited about it.

The entire room had gone suspiciously quiet. Even Greta looked like she'd forgotten how breathing worked. Slowly, still stunned, I lifted my arms and hugged him back. The embrace remained for several seconds. And somehow... I didn't want it to end. When was the last time we'd done something like this? Had we ever? Eventually Larry pulled away. His eyes looked suspiciously glassy. I stared at him. He stared back. Then he cleared his throat. "I'm proud of you." The words hit harder than I expected.
