Every instinct in me screamed that if he saw too much, everything would be revealed.
“I heard things,” I blurted, folding my arms across my chest. “About your little trip. About her.”
He chuckled, shaking his head. “Business. That’s all it was. People love to talk, Eve. You shouldn’t believe everything you see online.”
But his eyes kept flicking downward. Quick, sharp glances at my tummy. He thought I didn’t notice, but I did. Every single time.
I stayed still, my arms locked protectively across my body.
