My palms were all sweaty, my heart was beating very fast. He came towards the bed i was sitting on, and sat on the left side as i was occupying the right side. Mariella had sounded beautiful rolling off his Italian tongue, and even though Amber doubted most would do the pronunciation of it justice, it’d still made the number one spot. At least for now anyway.

I remember that I have to be here till they wrap up the audition with the girls and arrange a press conference for the candidates today or tomorrow, depending on how long this audition outstretches throughout the day. Somewhere deep within my subconscious, I know that they have chosen the six girls they had initially wanted, and it shouldn't take me more than an hour to arrange that conference and another hour to wrap up everything here and leave for the night. I check the display on my phone. It's four p.m., and I already feel like kicking my stilettos off and going home for the day.

Audrey had just finished arranging the very untidy office, and she wondered if the previous secretary did not know how a typical Alpha's office should be. The whole place was a mess, books were scattered all over the place, and the ones on the shelf were placed wrongly with files scattered all over the surface of the table. But all these were nothing to her, she already knew where each one went, she expertly placed them in their rightful places, and with a snap of her fingers(literally); the dust particles that had been collected by the furniture disappeared. She was just about to sit on the black sofa when she heard a knock on the door.

The moment the third man arrived was audible, and so was the moment, a little under a minute later, when he agreed. Ares listened to all of it. He did not move the entire time. He stood in front of me with his arms at his sides and his head slightly inclined toward the phone and he listened to every word with an attention so total that I could practically see him filing it — sorting it, indexing it, turning each piece of it over and setting it precisely where it needed to go. The recording ended. I lowered the phone.

I found Aurelie that evening. She was in the room she had been given when she arrived. Books on the floor. The pre Lyra records spread across the small desk in the specific arrangement of someone who had been working through them for weeks and had developed a personal organization system. She looked up when I knocked. "The convergent translation section," I said. "I need to read it tonight." She looked at me for a moment. The specific expression of someone who has been waiting for a specific person to ask a specific question.

“You know what’s funny?” “What?” “I used to think healing would feel dramatic.” She glanced around the apartment softly. “But actually…” A faint laugh escaped her. “…it feels like choosing curtain colors and arguing over bookshelf placement.” God. Adrian laughed quietly. “Which, for the record, you are losing.” “Absolutely not.” “I refuse to let you organize books by emotional vibe.” “It’s called aesthetic intelligence.” “It’s called chaos.” She shoved him lightly while laughing. And God. That sound. That lightness.

Everything on his desk and cabinets was neatly arranged in strict order. The books in his cabinet were arranged alphabetically from A to Z. There was not a book out of place, except … Larissa suddenly noticed something unusual. There was a book shoved into a corner of his bookshelf that was nearest to his office chair. It was a high school physics textbook, seemingly out of place in Kevan's office. Through the glass, Larissa could see that the physics textbook was very old. Some parts of its spine were worn and the pages were yellowish.

Avery's POV The investor, Mr. Porter, arrived promptly, his presence exuding authority and charisma. He was tall and imposing, with a sharp gaze that seemed to assess everything in an instant. Aiden and I greeted him, and as we led him into the living room, I could feel his scrutiny on us, as if he were measuring the authenticity of our relationship. “Thank you for hosting me today,” he said, his voice smooth and calculated. “I’ve heard impressive things about this merger, and I’m eager to see what you both have planned.”
