ARIEL

I stood at the edge of the underground club, clutching the envelope in my hand so tightly it crinkled. I hated this place. The smell of sweat, alcohol, and something darker coated the air like oil. I could feel it sticking to my skin, making my breath shallow. The money inside wasn’t enough. I knew it wasn’t enough. But it was all I had.

The bouncer at the back door eyed me like I was something he’d scraped off his shoe.

“You sure you wanna go in there, sweetheart?”

“I’m sure,” I lied.

He shrugged and stepped aside, and the bass of the music hit me like a punch to the chest. The underground club was packed, bodies grinding under neon lights, the air thick with the scent of arousal and alcohol. I swallowed hard and pushed through the crowd, heading straight for the VIP section.

"You're late," the bouncer at the door growled, eyeing me from head to toe.

"I'm here to see Maddox. Tell him Ariel has his money."

The bouncer smirked, but he opened the door anyway.

The back room was dimly lit, and the air was worse in here. My stomach turned when I saw him, Maddox, leaning against a desk, shirt half unbuttoned, a cigar between his fingers.

"Look who finally showed up," he said, his voice oily.

I held out the envelope. "It's not the full amount, but it’s close. I swear I’ll get the rest soon. There's just eleven thousand dollars left."

Maddox took the envelope and opened it, flipping through the bills.

"This is a joke," he muttered. Then louder, "You think this is enough? Do I look like a charity to you, sweetheart?"

I backed up as he stepped toward me. "I just need more time. Please...."

"You’re already out of time."

He grabbed my arm, hard. I gasped, struggling to pull free, but his grip only tightened.

"You think you can come in here with crumbs and expect me to smile? You owe me. And you’re gonna pay." He shoved me against the wall.

"Let me go!" I screamed, trying to hit him.

He just laughed and pointed toward the open door behind him. I saw the stage then, naked women dancing while drunk men howled and threw money.

"You see them? That’s where you’re going next. You’ll work off every damn penny you owe me. On your back or your knees, I don’t care."

"No!" I yelled, but it didn’t matter.

Two of his men grabbed me. I kicked and screamed, biting one of them, but they didn’t even flinch. They dragged me through another hallway and threw me into a room.

The door slammed shut behind me.

I sat up, coughing, only to realise I wasn’t alone. The room was full of women, some crying, some quiet, all dressed in revealing clothes. One of them, a tall brunette with kind eyes, knelt beside me.

One of them, a redhead with tired eyes, sighed when she saw me. “New girl?”

“I’m not! I’m not staying here,” I spat, scrambling to my feet.

The women exchanged glances before the brunette shook her head. “Honey, if you owe Maddox, you’re staying.”

“I’ll pay him back..."

“Not with money, you won’t.”

The reality of her words hit me like a slap. I backed into the wall, my breath coming too fast. This wasn’t happening. This couldn’t be happening.

I should’ve been smarter. Should’ve never listened to my Mika who told me to borrow from him in the first place. But I needed the money. Badly.

"I’m not staying," I said quickly. "I’m not like you. I’m not..."

"We all said that once," another woman muttered, brushing glitter off her chest.

"I just owe Maddox some money. I didn’t think he'd..."

"You came in person," the brunette said. "That was your first mistake."

Tears welled in my eyes. I felt sick. "My coworker said he helped people. Said I just had to be quick about paying it back..."

"Your coworker’s either a liar or a fool," the brunette replied. "Maddox never lets people go. Not unless he gets something out of it. If you can’t pay in cash, he takes your body."

"No," I whispered. "I won’t do it."

"Sweetie you won’t have a choice," the brunette said. "Brace yourself. It only gets worse from here."

They handed me a tiny outfit: fishnets, a leather bra, and high heels. My hands shook as I put it on. I couldn’t believe this was happening. I wanted to scream, to run, to turn back time. I felt like the biggest idiot alive. Why had I come here? Why hadn’t I just disappeared?

I stared at my reflection in the broken mirror. I didn’t look like me anymore.

The women were kind, in their own way. They tried to prepare me for what was coming, for what the men would do to me. The redhead, Lena, smudged dark liner under my eyes.

“Fight too much, and Maddox will make it worse. There are places he will hurt you where the bruises will never show,” she warned.

I didn’t answer. My hands were shaking.

When the door opened again, one of Maddox's men barked at us to line up. My heart pounded as we were herded toward the main floor. The music was louder now, the crowd wilder.

I couldn’t do this.

I wouldn’t.

The second the guard’s grip loosened, I bolted.

I didn’t think. Just ran, past the dancers, past the drunk men, straight for the back exit. I was so close.

Then I slammed into a wall of muscle.

A hand fisted in my hair, yanking me back. I gasped, pain shooting through my scalp, and looked up...

Into the coldest gray eyes I’d ever seen.

The man holding me wasn’t just tall. He was massive. Broad shoulders, a face carved from stone, and a presence that made the air around him crackle with danger.

His nostrils flared.

And then his grip tightened.

“You,” he growled.

I didn’t have time to react before he dragged me into a shadowed alcove, his body caging me in. His scent hit me first, dark, wild, like a storm and something entirely different.

He was an Alpha.

His skin should’ve burned for just touching me.

But it didn’t.

His fingers wrapped around my throat, cutting off my air. “I can smell who you are, you're supposed to be dead.”

I clawed at his wrist, panic flooding my veins.

Then....

A shudder ripped through him. His pupils dilated, his breath coming faster.

And I felt it.

The bond.

His snarl was pure fury. “No.”

But his hand on my throat loosened. Just slightly.

Enough for me to rasp, “Who the fuck are you?”

His lips curled back, revealing sharp canines.

“Kazimir Rossi"

Rossi?! From the Rossi family?!

And just like that...

I knew I was fucked.

kAZIMIR The study was dark when I finally returned. I didn't bother with the lights. I knew the room by heart, the creak of the floorboards, the weight of the curtains, the way the moonlight slanted through the windows at this hour. I went to the desk, pulled out my phone, and scrolled to an old contact. Alexei Volkov. No relation, different spelling, different bloodline. He was a fixer like Viktor, but he worked for me. Had for years. He was discreet, loyal, and completely invisible. I typed out a message. I need you to reach out to Viktor Petrov. Tell him you have a client who needs his services. High profile. Well paid. Make him an offer he can't refuse. - Kazimir Alexei's response came within seconds. Details? - Alexei I'll provide them when he agrees to the meeting. Just get him to the table. - Kazimir Understood. - Alexei I set down the phone and exhaled. One step at a time. -—————————— Something was wrong. I felt it as I moved toward the door on

ARIEL "Of course not. I only meant..." "You meant she's different. That she doesn't belong with the other children." I stepped closer, my voice low. "She's a normal kid. She's not special needs. She's not a problem to be accommodated. She's a child."Madame Voss's smile was brittle. "I apologize if I offended you. That wasn't my intention."Nikolai stepped in smoothly. "Perhaps we could see the rest of the facilities? The gardens, I've heard, are lovely."The tension broke. Madame Voss led us outside, chattering about landscaping and seasonal events. I walked behind her, Evie's hand still in mine, my jaw tight."You okay?" Nikolai murmured."I don't like her. Or this school." "She's only trying to help.""She's trying to categorize my daughter before she's even met her.""She's only trying to do her job. People with money want to know their children are in good hands. She's covering bases. I don't think she meant to offend you." I didn't respond. Evie was tugging my hand, pointing

KAZIMIR Ariel's jaw tightened. "So it was you? You were the one who was in my room." "It wasn't me. But I heard about the vials anyway. Tell me, what are they for?" "That's none of your business." "Everything in this house is my business." "Evie is not your business." "She's sleeping in my lap." "That's not by choice." I carefully shifted Evie, lifting her into my arms. She stirred but didn't wake. Her head fell against my shoulder, trust heavy and complete. "Where do you want her?" I asked. Ariel stared at me for a long moment. Then she turned and walked towards her room. I followed. --- The room was soft. Warm. The crescent moon nightlight glowed on the wall. I laid Evie on the bed, and Ariel pulled the blanket up to her chin. "Thank you," she said. Quiet. Almost reluctant. "You don't have to thank me." "I know." She looked at me. "I didn't want to." "Then why did you?" She didn't answer. We stood there, on either side of the bed, the child between us like a brid

  • Claimed By The Wolf Kings   Planted

ARIEL The house was quiet. Too quiet. The kind of quiet that meant everyone was asleep, or pretending to be. I'd waited until the clocks struck two, until I didn't hear any staff down the hall, until the silence had settled over the estate like a blanket. Now I moved through the darkness like a ghost. The study door was locked. I shouldn't have been surprised. After the kiss, after he'd found me in here once already, he wasn't stupid enough to leave it unguarded again. But the lock was old, a simple deadbolt, nothing fancy. He'd never expected anyone to try. I pulled the pick set from my pocket and got to work. It took longer than I wanted, because it had been a while since I picked a lock. My hands were shaking. Every creak of the floorboards sounded like footsteps. But finally, finally, the lock clicked, and I slipped inside. The study smelled like him. I hated how familiar it was. How my body relaxed slightly at his scent, like it was coming home. I was repulsed by

KAZIMIR "Didn't I ask you to stay away? You should be serving out you punishment far away from here." I told Dimitri. He shrugged."I'll serve it later. Besides, you forgave me remember?" He said with a sly grin and I rolled my eyes. "We'll talk about reports later. I'm stressed out." Nikolai straightened, also grinning. "What do you have to be stressed about? You're the Alpha. You have everything."I didn't answer. I couldn't explain that everything was precisely the problem. That every decision I made felt like a trap. That the woman I should hate was living in my house, sleeping under my roof, and I couldn't stop thinking about the way her body felt pressed against mine.So I hit the bag instead.Dimitri sighed. "Fine. We'll discuss the reports later." He moved to the weights, starting his own workout. Nikolai joined him, the two of them falling into easy conversation about pack logistics, about the upcoming allied meeting, about whether Lev would come down to join us. Normal

  • Claimed By The Wolf Kings   The loaded gun

ARIEL The bug sat on my nightstand like a loaded gun.I'd been staring at it for an hour. Maybe two. Time had stopped meaning much since the kiss, since his mouth on mine, his hands on my waist, his voice saying I can't stop like it was a confession and a curse all at once.I should have planted it. I'd had two chances. Two chances to save my daughter, and I'd failed both times because of him.Because when he kissed me, I forgot how to breathe.Because when he looked at me with those dark, hungry eyes, I forgot why I was supposed to hate him.Stupid, I thought. So stupid.I picked up the bug. Turned it over in my fingers. It was small, smaller than a button, matte black, designed to disappear. Viktor had chosen it carefully. He'd chosen everything carefully. The meeting spot. The deadline. The way he'd looked at me when he said three days.Three days.Today was day two.I set the bug down and looked around the room. Evie was asleep in the bed, her small body curled around her stuffed
