I was enveloped by darkness. I had a weightless sensation as if I were floating in space. I was unable to determine if my eyes were open or closed. Was this the last time? In the distance, a dim silvery light suddenly emerged, getting stronger by the second. It encircled me, inviting and warm but strong. Through the void came a quiet but authoritative voice. "Awaken, Melissa." I gasped as my eyes sprung open. The ground beneath me was cold and solid, but the room Kane and I had fallen into was anything from ordinary. Ethereal light glowed on the walls, and complex symbols pulsated in time with the pendant around my neck.

The copper taste of betrayal on my tongue as the sky over Boston turned to ink. "She’s awake! Doctor, she’s opening her eyes!" The voice hit me like a physical blow. It was Lurii. But her voice was wrong, it was higher, thinner, vibrating with a youthful, frantic energy untouched by the years of bourbon and bitterness I’d heard on that rooftop. I blinked, my vision swimming through a haze of tears and the stinging glare of the overhead lights. As the shapes solidified, I saw them. Standing on either side of my bed were the two architects of my ruin. Marcus and Lurii.

Blood Awakening Chapter 18: Say it, Mari In the darkness, two pairs of silver eyes glimmered like a pale full moon, staring at them intently, burning them like the fires of hell. Blue and surreal, as though the moon has rolled down to illuminate us with her touch, and it’s eerily pretty. Something I have never seen before at an Awakening. They don’t seem to be in pain anymore, either, and I wonder if the worst has passed. None of them is crying

Then: "A truth I hoped you would never need." The throne room fell quiet. Only the wind moved through the broken windows. Then Thomas looked back at the letter. His heart pounding. Then he continued reading. If you are reading this, the gate has opened again. If the gate has opened again, then the First Ones have awakened. And if they have awakened... humanity stands on the edge of extinction. Thomas swallowed. Hard. Then Ava stepped closer. "What does it say?" Thomas continued reading aloud.

After Dean has done talking, both of them leave the room and join the group chatting in the yard. A weakness came to her lips and her heart beat painfully. Christa sank as though on the point of death with tears welling up in her eyes. Evan hugged her and comforted her for a while. He had to escort her to her bed. Then came the illness, which closed her eyes and ears and plunged her into the unconsciousness of a newborn baby. In a state of deep and usually prolonged unconsciousness; unable to respond to external stimuli. It is Monday morning when Christa wakes up; she draws back the curtains and lets the sunlight in."After all, tomorrow is another day." She says it to herself.
