They jumped up high and landed on the shoulders of their enemies, and plunged their weapons on the neck. More guards were coming. But before they caught their attention, they silently killed one by one. “Shit!” Airoh cursed. He was forced to use magic to make their entry easier. He snapped his fingers, and the black fire quickly incinerated the guards attacking them. Branigan and Enkille looked at each other, smiling. “There is an underground tunnel going inside the palace. We’ll start our search there.” Airoh said. The two nodded and surveyed their eyes around. It was dark, under the crescent moon in the sky. But the fire everywhere would give them an unmistakable look at the environment.

Dead silence. The door creaked open. We lay on the floor, groaning, our muscles twitching from the backlash. The unmapped room under the central sublevel had made the roof a structure with a blind center that could still speak to the house’s own systems. “I’ll send word if they move—or if another node gets touched,” he said. “I’ll stay locked in.” He nodded once. “Lock it.” She did. And a room the plans had refused to name—holding people who had already reached upward once, and might decide to reach again.

My boots hit the stone hard as I landed in a darkness several levels beneath the fight. The sounds of combat became muffled, replaced by something far worse: whispers. Not real voices, but the residual energy of a thousand agonies. The walls themselves felt infected with it. I straightened slowly, senses sharpening as dim red markings began to glow across the corridor ahead. My jaw tightened as my gaze washed over forbidden ritual markings.

James walked toward the door and opened it, arriving at the backyard of the main hall. In the backyard, there were many rooms. Every door for each room had carvings of ancient words. There was an elixir room and a cultivation room. In the center of the backyard, there was also a tower. On the tower’s door, the carvings of ancient words read, “Secret Library.” James and Wotan walked over to the library chamber. The two pushed open the door and entered simultaneously. He pushes himself up. “We need to reach the sub-level. That’s where the data core is — and Arden.” I glare at him through the smoke. “Then we end this. Together.” He nods once. “Together.” --- Axel’s POV The lower levels are worse than I remember. Every corridor hums with hidden machines. The air is thick with the metallic scent of coolant and decay. The walls pulse faintly — alive in a way no building should be.

I say. “Agreed, but it can’t come from us. We can’t have alphas looking our way, songbird,” he warns me. Shit, he is right. “I sense something alive in the back room, but otherwise it’s empty,” he adds. We go to the back together, and Caleb opens the flimsy door. It’s a long room, and the back wall is filled with cages. The cages are all broken and dirty, and it stinks. The doors are all open except for a few at the bottom. I try not to look at the piles of bones and red dust in the open cages as I head to the closed ones.
