Liam's voice sounded behind Hayley. "We can move to the next level." Hearing that, Hayley finally stopped observing the area. She turned and led everyone down the stairs. There were zombies in the stairwell, too. Fortunately, each level had sealed doors. After clearing out the zombies on the next level down, they reached underground Level Two. There were even more zombies on Level Two. The layout was the same grid-like design. Corridors stretched in every direction, and the white hallways were littered with blood and wandering zombies.

Everything is frayed, the seams of my life coming apart. The lounge is silent when we enter, save for the low, hypnotic pulse of jazz through the walls. The front end continues its charade of high-end craft cocktails and polite conversation, but we slip through the hidden bulkhead in the larder, guarded by sentries who offer only a sharp, knowing nod. The back room reeks of aged leather and woodsmoke. It is my fortress. Zane moves to the bar and pours a triple measure of malt. Lucien paces, the floorboards groaning under his weight. Draven leans against the mantel, eyes fixed on the fire as if demanding a confession.

“Do you know what it’s like to wake up every day wondering if today’s the day they find you? If this city is really big enough to hide in?” Damian didn’t answer right away. Instead, he said something else. “You need to avoid the basement levels for a while. Especially Level -2.” She blinked, thrown off. “What’s on Level -2?” “Security operations. Central surveillance. Not everyone down there is loyal.” “Someone in your company?” His jaw ticked again. That same restrained silence. That same unspoken confirmation. She wrapped her arms tighter around herself. “You’re scaring me,” she said. “I’d rather scare you than bury you.”

Jonah takes us to a back office that leads to another back office that opens up to a storage room with a very scary catwalk staircase up to the second floor. I’m pretty sure we’re about to be murdered when Jonah ushers us up it and through a beaded curtain, into a room lit up with black light. The floor is painted black, with sigils and symbols in glowing phosphorescent colors. There are beanbag chairs scattered around the perimeter of the room, and an impressively tall hookah in one corner. Shelves hold jars of herbs and dirt and murky liquids I want nothing to do with.

The silence is spine-tingling. The suspense has Ri and I turning around with each step we take forward. The place looks like a run-down mansion or a very small hotel. "Watch my back," Ri says and goes for the handle of the door. The door creaks open and a warm red light illuminates the darkroom. It's a fireplace. The crackling fire fills the silence. We walk into the room and a scream erupts causing us to freeze on the spot.

I'm not quite sure why that comforted me enough to head down those stairs, but my feet descended one by one. Once downstairs, I heard Spencer coming behind me. The basement opened up to another family room, but this one was smaller and a somewhat normal size. This time, there were doors all around the room, two on the right, two in the middle, and one on the left. Moving me aside, Spencer goes to the left of the room and pulls open another door, but this time, I don't hesitate to follow him. Looking inside, the room is a little larger than the first family room I saw. The room inside was covered with mats. Like a mental asylum, only they are blue.

Amongst them, is me, and my heavy heart filled with anticipation. I stood outside the room 214, I could feel my handshake as I reached for the door handle. It’s funny how I rehearsed this moment a thousand times in mind, but nothing could prepare me for what really is waiting for me at the other side. With a deep breath, I pushed the door open and stepped into his room. The figure of a man lying on the hospital bed, whose features softened by the glow of the afternoon sunlight that coming through the window, quickly caught me gaze.

"Let's go." "Hey! Don't push." I glare at the same man who shoved me in front while the men follow behind me, and I'm behind Beta Steven. I look over and see Talima in the back with a worried look. More oversized doors, taller than the ones for the rooms, opened wide as I stepped inside with a room full of supernatural creatures in a large hall. Pillars are supporting the second level for others to look down. Bright chandeliers hung above my head as walls were decorated with the tapestry of each Elder's sigils.

Anna only nodded which madam Angelique took it as a ‘yes’. With a torch in Levi and Azrael’s hand, they lead the way towards the other side of the secret passage. Anna said that the passage is one way to reach the back of the pack. The back of the pack house is usually unguarded because it was located underground and it is a place where they throw their trash. But this time, it is the place where the vicious creatures throw the dead bodies.
