The Beast By Samreen Shah Novels & Stories

“It’s the Beast…” Mongolia’s face went pale, everyone was silent. And then little by little, they heard rushing steps. The beast breaks all possible bones of the villager's bodies by tossing them around. Another howl, and a tall man appeared. Red eyes, sharp claws. Long fangs and long silver white hair.

"Scared?" Am I? I drag my head in a sluggish shake. "Be honest, Ella. This beast is no joke when it comes to this. And I don't want regrets. So tell me honestly. Are you ready for this?" I swallow hard, gawking at him, while he awaits for my response. It's too hot in here, suddenly. I'm burning. And I love this beast, as he calls himself. So...

Her eyes flick to the tray of food I still haven’t touched. “It might be your last meal,” she says, flat. Unblinking. She looks drained. Like her soul’s been scraped clean. “You can never really know what Zeke wants,” she mutters. “He’s one of the real monsters. What he did today was nothing.” The food still smells good. My stomach growls loud enough to echo. I feel the hunger deep in my bones I pick up a fork. Take a bite. It’s not hot anymore, but it tastes like survival. The second bite is even better. I don’t stop.

I did everything to be a good friend, only to be treated as my so-called best friend’s scapegoat. When her husband found cigarette ash in their house, she claimed I was the one smoking. When she snuck off for a private rendezvous with her lover, she told him she was celebrating my birthday. And when she got pregnant, she pinned the blame on me again, declaring I was consumed with jealousy—that I had spiked her drink and hired someone to violate her. Enraged, her husband marched to my doorstep wielding a blade and hacked me to death. When I opened my eyes again, I had returned to the exact day she had asked me to cover for her affair.

At her mercy. She stepped closer, and I wanted to scream for her to leave. Run the other way. He was unpredictable. But she didn't look afraid. With bare feet she tip-toed over toward me, stopping a foot away. The beast roared loudly, her hair blowing back from its strength, but she didn't flinch. Piper sat down on her knees in front of me and stared. I imagined what she saw at the moment. A huge beast with yellow ghoulish eyes, and a face only a mother could love? None of it seemed to bother her. She reached forward carefully, touching the beast's face, and he stopped.

Her sweet scent whispered in the night air, faint but distinct, teasing my senses and pulling me in her direction like an invisible thread. My heart raced. She was on the other side of the park. Was she in her wolf form? Some omegas never shifted, but I’d heard of a few who did. The urge to change into my wolf and track her pumped through my veins. But a wolf roaming through the city wouldn’t go over well. I didn’t care, but I didn’t want the locals trigger-happy and putting down innocent animals.

I shout, as my turbulent emotions take over. My mate falls back and lands on her rear end. Her breathing accelerates, and her eyes look around wildly as if expecting an attack. She begins to cry as she watches the darkness around her, and again, I become conflicted. I want her, but I can't have her. Her view of my people is no better than anyone else so she probably wouldn't want me. Who am I kidding? Of course, she wouldn't want me. I am a beast. A beast that kills monsters. A wild animal that can't be trusted.

His speech and articulation had been very advanced for a four-year-old, but after pouting and frowning, he finally looked his age. “But running away won’t solve the problem. She’ll still tattle to your mom,” Ed said. He didn’t know who Rosemore was, but he followed the conversation. AJ smacked his forehead. “You’re right!” Reluctantly, he grabbed his bag. “What’s your name, mister?” AJ asked. Curious before they parted. “Just call me Beast.” Ed pointed to the scar on his face. AJ laughed. “You’re not as bad as the beast,” he said.

"I heard you begging... I couldn't leave you." On the ledge above, Morgessa’s face went ghastly white. Her green eyes widened in sheer, unadulterated horror as she watched the dead King rise from the snow, holding his mate like she was the only thing keeping the world from spinning off its axis. Caspian sat up, bringing me with him, his arm locked around my waist, his silver eyes turning slowly toward the woman on the cliff. The Beast wasn't just awake. He was completely, terrifyingly whole. And as he looked at Morgessa, the smile that touched his blood-stained lips made my own blood run cold with dark, wild anticipation.
