Lyra pressed closer to the cold stone wall, her heartbeat syncing with the passing minutes. Every clang of the bell felt louder than the last. She imagined the faces inside and what they were discussing.
When the sixth chime rolled through the air, the meeting’s energy shifted. Voices softened. The scraping of chairs began, boots moving, a signal of things winding down.
