The Bell Chime Novels & Stories

POV: Mei Ling I made it down exactly three steps before the midday bell hit its seventh stroke. The iron didn't ring the way it used to. The intense cold had gotten deep into the metal, turning the grand, sweeping chiming into a series of flat, wooden thuds that sounded like someone hitting an old, frozen log with an ax. By the twelfth strike, the sound just sort of gave up, running out of breath entirely.

I gathered every small, hard-won victory of our own and poured that feeling into Kairi’s net, into Silas’s hum, into the waiting bell. For a long moment, nothing. Then, the patina on the bell’s surface shimmered. Not with light, but with a slow, deep, silent vibration. The air thickened. And we heard it. Not with our ears, but in our bones, in our souls. A single, resonant, glorious BONG. It was the past, ringing in the present. It was the sound of a community choosing a future. The weight of it, the hope in it, was immense.

He muttered and I frowned in confusion. She just makes you— The clanging sound of a loud bell suddenly filled the air now and it was like the world around took a pause as all the growling stopped. .. But then it continued. The pause was momentary as the Ferals all around us started growling again. However, this time, the growling seemed to be going away from us and not towards us. The bell continued clanging from a distance and it seemed to be coming from the old bell house… and it seemed to be calling the Ferals as they were no longer slamming against the wooden door now.

The chime was coming. "Ahh! Ahh! ahh!" I cried, bracing myself for the bell that was about to ring all over my body and take me to another world. The moment it came, James shot into me but didn't stop pumping and I began to cry. I cried so much.

Thomas yelled as she ran by them. I rushed inside to see Casey jogging up the stairs with Mindy as the bell continued to ring. Our bell system was awesome. We connected every watchtower to the house and barn. Each rhythmic jingle was a hassle to learn, but we came up with different rhythms for different situations. Celia's jingle was telling us we had human visitors. "What do you want me to do?" I yelled at Casey.

20 Maybachs sounded their horns in unison and rolled forward in tandem. The seemingly endless convoy became Ignatius' obstacle. He could only watch helplessly as a cloud of dust blew into his face, landing on his hair and face as he craned his neck and shouted at the departing cars. It was as though the world itself were mocking him. By the time Ignatius caught up to me at the entrance of the chapel, his hair was disheveled, his face was coated in road dust, and he was gasping for breath.

Danju knew what produced the sound, and where the control is for the bell to Chim. The control is in the director's office. It is from there alone which means they were not the only ones left in the building at the moment as they had thought. The Director is in his office. The bell is chimed only when the director needs a guard. It is rarely used. But it was designed to protect the director and for the director to call for help whenever she is under attack. Danju looked into Jacquard's face. Jacquard was still busy searching for where the sound is coming from. Danju pointed to the bell placed directly above them.

he asked. “Now,” I said softly, “we pretend this is a visit of peace.” “And secretly?” he probed I turned, my eyes sharp, glinting like silver. “We find the truth beneath the frost.” Bobby grinned. “Now you’re speaking my language.” But even as he spoke, the air in the chamber seemed to grow colder. Somewhere deep within the castle, a bell tolled — low, slow, and ancient. My gaze flickered toward the sound. “That’s the Temple Bell,” i murmured. It hasn't rung since my mother's death.

The bells rang without hands touching them. That was how I knew it had begun. Not the ceremonial bells. Not the ones for gatherings or grief. These rang from underneath the city, a deep iron toll that vibrated through bone and stone alike, slow and deliberate, each note spaced just far enough apart to make your nerves stretch thin waiting for the next. Kaden’s head snapped up first. Kael followed a heartbeat later. “That’s not an alarm,” Kael said quietly. “No,” I replied. “It’s a summons.”
