I walked away before they noticed me, but the image of them stayed in my mind all night, haunting every quiet moment. By sunset, the second trial began: The Trial of Blood. I’d heard of it, but standing at the edge of the sacred grounds, seeing it unfold, it was worse than I imagined. They wanted us to offer our life force, to let our energy flow into hers, to strengthen her.

Azric opened it and we all three sat there, reading and processing. By decree of the High Blood Council, At dusk tomorrow, you will face your First Trial of Worth. Each combatant shall enter the arena alone. You will face another chosen participant in a battle to the death. There is no surrender. There is no aid. Only blood determines who advances. Should you win, you will be marked as Worthy. Should you fail, your name will rot with your corpse beneath the arena sands. Let your blood speak. 4 HOURS LATER The arena floor reeked of blood, sweat, and old death.

Zayn rubbed his eyes. "If that's the case she's in more danger than I thought. No one, absolutely no one can know of this. If the government discovers that her blood can reverse the effects they're inflicting it'll become a blood bath here," he said with concern. Enzo asked if he could run tests to be certain and I readily agreed along with a concerned Zayn. I wondered if my blood took the need for the cryptids to drink blood away or if it completely took their added gifts entirely. I assumed the tests would tell. Enzo hurried with his medical supplies and drew my blood. My eyes grew large at the bright golden liquid and glanced at Enzo. He told me blood wasn't supposed to look like that. "N

Still, I just keep falling in the worst circumstances. "Are you okay?" Olivia asks in her sweet voice and I mumble a yes, trying to control my tears from falling. And I have heard rumours that several of the Sire's marriage trials just disappeared." "What do you mean by disappeared? Didn't they try again for a different werewolf?"

Investigations: The patient’s initial work-up included a full blood count, type and cross-match for transfusion, and X-ray imaging of her head and lateral cervical spine. The X-rays were both performed at the primary medical facility. Head X-ray was of poor quality but did not reveal any obvious injuries. Cervical spine X-ray imaging was lost on transfer, and repeating the cervical spine X-ray at the tertiary hospital would have delayed operative treatment. Cross-sectional imaging was not performed, as CT scanning is not available at the tertiary hospital. Her full blood count was notable for a hemoglobin of 11.3 g/dl and platelet count of 202 (x106 u/ml).
