- I told him. He nodded and pulled several books out from one of the stacks and set them in front of me. I opened the top book and ran my fingers over the runes in the title. It was beautifully written as if each word was drawn with love and attention to detail. Now that I looked at it, it reminded me of a combination of Norse and Old English. Nerrian pulled his chair closer and pointed to the first word, speaking it in my mind than out loud in Draygonian. With his help, I repeated the word over and over again until I perfected it.

I opened the door to my room and saw Noah sitting on the couch in the living room with a thick book in his hand, reading intently. The words in the book were like nothing I had ever seen before, like a flock of beasts with fangs and claws, but more like birds. I wanted to say good morning to him, but pets were not allowed to disturb their owners, so I could only stand aside and watch him quietly. "Wake up so early? Have you eaten breakfast?" Noah still spotted me, closed the book, got up and walked over. "Not yet." I hurriedly lowered my head, still not daring to look him in the eyes.

The gray-coated man quietly whispered, "It remembers you." Adrian stopped. "I've never seen this book." The stranger looked into his eyes. "No." "But it has seen you." A low hum filled the island. The first page slowly turned by itself. The second page... was completely blank. Not a single word. Not a single mark. Only a tiny sentence appeared at the bottom. Place your hand here. The First Reader immediately raised his voice. "Don't." "If the book accepts you..." "...there will be no turning back."

Next thing I know she'll be telling me she knows how to fly. "Open it," Alice says, handing the book over. I crack the book in the middle, but... the page is blank. Flipping through the tome, I find that every page is that way. "What am I supposed to do?" I ask. “It’s blank.” "For now," Alice says. The page suddenly begins to fill with words. "It's writing itself," I say, in shock. How is this possible? I turn the book over and study its spine, looking for the mechanical trick. It looks like any other book, though.

Mirja said, stressing each word. “Why?” I asked no one in particular, even though I could feel Mirja’s pointing at me. I was too shocked to even care. “Why are the pages blank?” I wanted to get this book all this time, but there was nothing there. Just a book with empty promises. “Where are the words, the spells!” I started to yell. Mirja cocked her guns. “Last warning, Alaia. Put...it...down.”

The book seemed to have come alive under his touch. “What is this?” Lyon whispered, his voice laced with fear and awe. Buy he couldn't stop himself. As he opened the book, the pages seemed to turn on their own and finally stopped on a particular page and his eyes were drawn to the text and as he traced his fingers on it they words seemed to glow under his touch. The words had come alive almost as if they were speaking to him. Immediately, the energy in the room changed as he began to read the words.

Clara’s book. It wasn’t large, bound in dark leather, the edges frayed, the scent of age and ash clinging to it. I’d hidden it under my robe, heart racing though my face had stayed calm. No one saw. For a dangerous moment, the sheer contrast between his aura and his physical touch is completely disarming. Elara looked into his grey eyes. She saw the demon who had branded her, the man who had died for her, and the partner who was now standing in the Zero-Point with her. "Peace is just another word for 'Paid in Full', Vane," Elara said. "And I’m not interested in being settled." She touched the flame to the corner of the book. The leather didn't burn with orange fire. It erupted in a geyser of white light and rainbow colored ink. The pages turned into birds made of words, flying out of the vault, through the co
