Chapter 42 - Crow *Marcus* The sun had fell hours before, leading into the dark and damp night. My footsteps just barely sounded through the large stone hallway as I moved swiftly through the maze of corridors that lead to the infirmary. A puzzling message from the doctor had set me on edge, and I had to wait be to separated from the prince to move towards the meeting room. The crow is here – F.T.

"Caw—caw—caw—" The cawing of crows echoed incessantly in the room as I struggled to open my eyes, finding myself back in the room of the red-haired man. My mind was still foggy, unable to make out what was in my field of vision. The red-haired man sat by the burning fireplace, engrossed in a thick book. Above, the crow flapped its black wings, occasionally emitting unpleasant cries, but its master seemed unperturbed.

High above the desecrated courtyard, a lone black crow watched the scene silently from its perch on the broken pillar, and deep within Nysera's ancient soul, something fundamental finally began to break. End of Chapter 6

The commotion in the crowd was reaching a fever pitch. Some were even gearing up to storm the stage to stop me when suddenly, the banquet hall doors slammed open. The screech of brakes violently cut through the downpour. It was not just one car that had arrived, but an entire motorcade of six black armored Hummers that crashed right through the glass walls of the banquet hall, sending shards flying everywhere. The car doors swung open in unison, and a stream of figures in black poured into the banquet hall.

While the grand duke’s protection offered some hope, it also made her wonder about her place in his home. Once in the Library room, Elen was pleasantly surprised to see it filled with books. Despite her earlier worries about forbidden books, she couldn’t help but feel excited. The grand duke’s servant brought some old books to the table, and Elen eagerly flipped through them, searching for any mention of fairies and silver werewolves. “Please call if you need anything, my lady,” the servants said before leaving the library. “Thank you,” Elen replied and began to read the books.

Curiosity led to a shelf and she grabbed the first book that made its way into her hand. “The Five Sages,” She read the title. She opened the first page. “Hi,” Roxie let out a little scream and she dropped the book in shock but a hand grabbed it and she met the striking brown eyes of a boy with two huge glasses at the bridge of his nose. “Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you,” the boy immediately apologized. “I'm Cein, Rune's younger brother, I help keep the library clean,” Roxie smiled at the cute way he adjusted his glass and bit his lip nervously while staring shyly at the floor as if he was before his crush. “I'm Roxie,”

They never saw the group coming. Marco and one of his men took them down with brutal efficiency, and then they were inside. The air burned with chemical fumes, stinging Elena’s eyes and throat. Around a dozen men worked at tables covered in white powder. Shock registered on their faces as armed strangers stormed in. Some reached for weapons. Others froze.

“So, Crow gave you purpose. How?” “He bailed me out, gave me a family,” he said. “Became the father I never had. I owe him everything. And he needed a little help protecting the club from an ex-member who had computer skills as good as mine. Better, even. But in answer to your original question, I don’t speak like a thug because I have to work with highly educated people on a regular basis, so Crow made sure that I could converse with them properly. I’m “Booker” because, not only did I used to have my nose in a book most of the time, I do the club’s books.”
