A deep rumble vibrated through the floorboards, and a moment later, Dare’s towering frame appeared in the doorway, a towel slung over his shoulder, drops of water still clinging to his dark hair. “Something smells… interesting,” he mused, a small, knowing smirk playing on his lips.
“It’s the smell of ambition, Dare,” I shot back, brandishing a wooden spoon like a sword. “And possibly garlic. I might have overdone the garlic.” The truth was, I had no earthly idea what I was doing. My cooking experience extended to instant noodles and burning toast.
