My plan was to explore the house and find out every single possible escape route, while planning my escape. Why the hell does Mr. Dark and Dangerous have to be Mr. Smarty Pants as well? His tables were turned, books were everywhere, and shelves were even strewn about; it was a total book shambles.

EMY’S POV I closed the book and leaned over on the table, resting my head on my arm and I stared into the distance. It had been five days now since escaping Jerry's kidnap and yet I entered into another… prison. The walls of the mansion were looking like cells and these guards were there to keep the prisoner-me- from escaping. It was heavily guarded, and I couldn't take a step away from here to the gate without an alarm being raised. Again, I could still try. However, there was no weapon in the room to aid my escape. It was as if they knew I'd make an attempt. The only significant things in the room were the sofa chair in the center and the small coffee table. Then the queen-sized bed and the floating bookcase on the wall nearest to the window. It had only about three books: Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, and The Little Mermaid.

The door swings inward an inch or two. I hesitate. “Oliver?” Nothing. I push it open all the way. The room is dim, curtains drawn. The soft glow of his desk lamp casts shadows across the shelves, the posters, the stack of books he never finishes. But the bed’s empty. No Oliver. I step inside cautiously, a strange chill crawling across my shoulders. The room smells faintly like him—cedarwood cologne and clean cotton—but it feels… wrong. Like someone left in a hurry. Or like they were trying to hide something.
