The wood swung open to reveal the prince, a glare set across his handsome features. “Took you long enough faerie.” He snapped at me, and his eyes travelled down my body, stopping at my bandaged wrist. Anger flashed across his face, the intensity in his eyes making me squirm as he looked back up at me. “Who did that?” He snapped, and took a step towards me. I took a step back, and pulled my wrist up to my chest, hugging it to my body. “Not that it’s any of your business, but I did. I slipped while getting my dress off.” I lied, and I could tell by his face that he didn’t buy a word of it. He growled under his breath, but didn’t push for a further explanation.

A man who had everything and nothing. “Your Highness?” The maid peeked in again, tentative. “The children are asking if you’ll join them for stories.” For a heartbeat, I imagined it: lying on the carpet, their heads on my shoulder, a book between us, their laughter untangled from politics. Then the image burned away. Every corridor had ears. Every moment was a lens. One photograph of the Crown Prince with his bastards in the palace and my mother’s narrative turned into a gallows. “Not tonight,” I said. “Tell them I will see them tomorrow.” The lie was easy. So many of them were.

Seri knew that if she tried to save her tears, she would just end up being the fake princess with messed up make-up, and that's not something that she needed as of the moment. The huge doors opened and a bunch of important leaders of the world slowly emptied the room. The prince strategically waited for every single one of them to leave before revealing himself in front of an old lady. She smiled at the prince and happily reached out her arms to hug him tightly. "Did you eat well, my dear?" The lady asked. "I hope that making you entertain the princesses was much better than talking with all those leaders. If it was not, I'd be more than guilty that I chose to switch places with you."

My heart leaps to my throat. “We'll have to—” Suddenly, there's commotion in the hall. The girls gasp, murmurs erupt, and some make happy squeals. Man in charge—fuck it, we'll call him little man, for now—momentarily forgets me and turns in the direction of the noise. My chest is still heaving from the exertion I put my poor heart to as Rhea squeezes my hand reassuringly. “Girl, that was close,” she whispers. “Your highness! You shouldn't be here! Gods!” It's the alarm in little man’s voice that has me spinning, laying my eyes on the rumored ‘Mad Prince.’

The Alpha plastered a smile I have never seen before across his face. Without being told, I bowed my bead down and I expected the rude man to do the same but instead, they bowed to him. “My prince, we are really sorry for the inconvenience. Rooms are being prepared for you and your companions” My prince? The rude man is the dragon prince. And just then, this evil prince, after making me confess to telling him my pack’s secrets, looked at me in the face and smirked. I knew that if he spilled all my ranting, my past will be the least of my troubles. I was in deep sh!t!

Lisa followed behind her with an unreadable expression. "Don't worry," Lisa muttered as she slid behind the counter again. "You handled it fine. He flirts with anything that breathes." Aurora arched a brow. "So he does that often?" "Only when he's in a good mood," Lisa said, then paused. "You got lucky." Jeremiah gave Aurora a low whistle. "You met the snow king himself and lived to tell it. Impressive." "Is that what people call him?" "Some do," Lisa said, lowering her voice. "Kyram Vladimir. He runs half the damn import scene west of the Rockies. Too clean to catch, too rich to touch. Men like him buy silence with gold and loyalty with blood."

I frowned as I could see no sign of him. “What does it matter? Scurried off to some hole, I am sure.” Rivyn took my hand, drawing me back to the shelves I had come from. He plucked a book at random from the shelf. “Here, try this one,” he said, and guided me back to the table before returning to his seat and the book he studied. I opened the book to the first page. The elegant script introduced the book as being written by a man who claimed to have lived amongst the Fae, and from his experience in the Fae Court had taken a collection of hearth stories and told the truth behind them.

I'd never seen him like this. Gold-red eyes. Claws white as bone. He stepped over my body and caught Cassius by the throat. "You touched her." His voice wasn't human anymore. It was something dragged up from the depths of hell. Crack. He tore out Cassius's throat. Blood sprayed across the throne steps. The second prince crumpled, gurgling, drowning in his own blood. But even as he died, Cassius laughed. A rattling, wheezing laugh. "Hah... hahaha..."

Phoenix asked after giving his mate an apple to consume. "Savage Lord, I will come for you two later," he removed his hand from the book and closed it. As he tried to put it back in his storage ring, he felt something wrap around it. It was quite warm and fluffy but that's not the vital issue. The fluffy thing was trying to snatch his forbidden book. He found it to be the main tail of the Olmpha female. "You..." he tried to keep custody of it, to no avail. In seconds, the book was already snatched from him and given to the smiling first prince of his enemy kingdom. Damn it!
