The corner of his mouth curved a millimeter. He turned and walked toward the stone steps. He was the Gatekeeper. He had guarded for three hundred years. The door had finally been knocked open. --- Marcus knelt on the stone floor directly before the Void Gate. His position aligned exactly with the center of the doorframe. Five hundred years of kneeling repeatedly before the same door had worn two shallow, smooth depressions into the stone beneath his knees. He had never once crossed this threshold.

That's what he thought. "Samara is the keeper of the Gate of Praeterium. It is the gate to the past, the present and the future. She holds the three keys called praeteria. It would not work when one of the keys is missing. Keter is a sphinx who guards the Gate of Dimensia. It is the only way to travel to other dimensions, alternate reality, to different places and times. Cosmos is the keeper of the Gate of Caelum. The only gate for mortals, demons and dark creatures to enter the place of the Gods."

Humans couldn’t see them, which was good for them, as wandering through a Gate would send them to the Fae world, from which, they would never return. “I want to speak to the Lord Watcher,” I said curtly to the guard. The Lord Watcher was the highest position of power at a Gate and knew all the comings and goings of the fae who had passed through their portal. “The Lord Watcher is detained,” the guard attempted to stop me, and I shot him a look so dark that he stumbled out of my way. I stormed through the building. On the outside, the building looked like a dilapidated brownstone, while on the inside was another world.

I’m sorry to all of you. There was a long silence in the room. The truth had finally been said. Raw. Ugly. Unjustifiable. But real. Outside, the noise of reporters and bloggers still buzzed faintly at the gate. But inside, for one moment, all was still. The room had barely settled from Imani’s confession when the gatekeeper appeared at the doorway, panting slightly. GATEKEEPER (slight bow) Sir… there’s someone at the gate. It’s… it’s Nathan.

The nail she held pulsed once in her hand. “The Keeper of Keys,” she whispered. From the shadows at the edge of the hollow, a figure emerged. It was tall, draped in something that flowed like smoke, and it had no face. It spoke without making a sound. “You carry the mark.” Camela held up the nail. “They said you could open the gate.” “I can,” the Keeper replied. “But opening the gate requires a price.” Her stomach twisted. “What price?” “A name,” the Keeper said. “Not yours—someone else’s. Someone bound to you.”

My throat was getting dried all the way, but I stayed quiet. His back was on me but still I could feel his eyes noticing me. Was that his aura or something that I Can’t explain but one thing is for sure, this guy is really a hunter. After crossing some distance and taking many right and left that I forgot to keep in my mind, we reached at the big metallic gates pressed by electricity. Beyond those gates, no one knows what they are hiding, except those who are hunters. It’s an achievement to become a part of a hunter programme but only few can become a true hunter. I want to be one, one day.

I said shaking my head, “Gateway? What, gateway? And what union?” “A gateway that passes between the worlds to this one; each world has hidden portals, and each gateway has guardians. The Weston’s are the guardians of the one near here. Not only are they guardians, but they are also our protectors.” She looked me in the eyes when she added, “Rayna, this cannot be repeated...not even to your friends. Do you understand?” I nodded my head slowly. All of what was said seems so unbelievable. “What Union?” I asked again sounding a little choked up. It was now beginning to make sense.

After being assured that it was just me, only then did I slowly and gently open the door. Actually, I was waiting for Gunner to make a fuss the moment I started opening the door. I mean, he's a bodyguard. He’s got good senses, though they're kind of failing him when it comes to me, but his door being opened in the middle of the night was something he will never not notice, right? But what I was waiting for did not happen at all. No one was making a fuss, no one was surprised, and no one was questioning me about what I was doing. In fact, no one was inside the room at all.

I stood outside the gates of Blackthorn Keep, waiting for the escort that had been sent to receive me. Instead, the first person who came through the gate was Marcus Blackthorn. For a moment, recognition darkened his face. Then the old arrogance returned, smooth and familiar, as if three years had changed nothing between us. “Sienna?” His gaze moved over my cloak, my traveling dress, the quiet curve of my stomach. “What are you doing here?” He dismounted, and the people behind him followed.

the gatekeeper said as he stepped aside to give him a way of entering inside. Aaron went inside the house yet prior to entering he grabbed the shoulder of the watchman and took a gander at him. "You did nothing off-base. Don't be apprehensive?" He said as he pointed towards the sweat on the gatekeeper's brows with the indifferent appearance on his face. That guard promptly wiped it off and took a gander at the man leaving back in dread, who was strolling inside the house. "What are you doing here, bitch?" Isabella yelled as she saw a running figure of that son of bitch inside her house.
