Curious, I picked it and read the words written on the hard cover; ‘Lobo’ was the single word that was inscribed into the thick cover. I opened the first page and saw that it was written in foreign language. I glanced at Sir Nich, he was engrossed in whatever he was writing. I returned my attention to the hand-drawn, black ink pictures in the book. They were of some kind of beast. The beast that I saw looked like a giant wolf and the artist had put extra effort in drawing their deathly eyes. There were several writings on the page. ‘Only if I could understand this,’ I thought. The Vapour trench ran all the way around that mountain. Orbin leapt clear over the 30m wide trench; it was deep. Orbin landed safely on to the other side, it was effortless to him. The unicorns carrying the girls flew over the trench gracefully. On that other side of that trench was the sanctuary for lesser animals: The herbivores. The Hobitoes looked like squirrels that hopped like mini kangaroos; a group of Hobitoes hopped in a throng over to Orbin, they were about 7 of them. They were his pets, they seemed pleased to see him. They made pleased purring sounds like cats. Unfortunately, he had no treats for them but that did not stop them from rubbing themselves against his massive legs.

“The Baron wants the hobgoblin’s barbed club. I don’t know if he understands the meaning of diplomacy, but it is what it is.” Laughing without mirth, Zen accepted the new quest and sighed. He’d just confirmed the status of the hobgoblin with the scout. Although the hobgoblin was injured from the cursed tree expedition, he was still strong enough to defend his camp. “I’ll try to figure out something,” he thanked the merchant and left with Venedict in tow.

Tobi offered a small, mysterious tilt of his head. "He’s like a priest," the customer remarked, leaning in to inspect the wet paint. "You ask him a question, and he gives you a vision instead of a lie. Tobi, tell me if you were to paint my husband’s snoring, what color would it be? Because in my ears, it is the color of a rusty engine." The surrounding crowd erupted in laughter. Tobi smiled, his hand moving fluidly across the wood. He grabbed a stick of charcoal and drew a heavy, vibrating spiral of "Smog Grey" that seemed to weigh down the corner of the kiosk.

"What does your new friend look like, Heidi?" Heidi proudly lifted her drawing. It was a crude, childish sketch of a very tall figure standing between two giant green trees. The figure was colored completely in dark gray and black crayons, but the most unsettling part was the face. Heidi had used a bright yellow crayon to draw two massive, perfectly round circles for the eyes.

Not even a single try. “What does it say?” I asked, brows furrowing as I rubbed both of my palms to create warmth. The cold had been much cruel today ever since we arrived at the healer’s cabin. I encouraged myself to look at the drawings instead; the art style is pretty much gothic, if not ancient. It wasn’t inked. Hues of black and white were embedded on the golden brown pages of the material. I saw the graphics of a human and a werewolf. They were doing something strange… some sort of a ritual. Elliot did not flip the pages further so I ended up guessing that that was it.

It would be cruel to me. I'm surprised the wolf listened to me. From behind, I watched it as it looked at the two men escape as if it regretted its action of listening to me. The creature then slowly turned around and walked past me, heading further into the woods. I followed him. Pausing under a tree, I watched as he made his way towards a cliff and halted near the edge of it. The moon shone brightly down on its body, allowing me to see its dark and light grey fur with tints of black and brown clearly.

Almost. Then, a scream ripped through the idyllic scene. A high, keening wail that sliced through the quiet like shattered glass. I slowly abandoned The Hobbit. From the safety of the porch door, I cautiously looked past my yard. My parents' house was nestled on the corner of two quiet residential streets, usually peaceful, so the ear-piercing cry rang like a bell of despair.

“On the first day when I had asked to assess your knowledge I had put sentences up on the board. They were from a Latin version of Dante’s Inferno…” The whole class groaned without me finishing. “…but I’m not that mean. I won’t assign that as reading. Instead, I am going to have you read The Hobbit.” As I finished off passing Risa her paper, I grabbed the stack of books in the back of the class. Handing them out as I made my way back to the front, I set the two extra on my desk. Turning back, I could see them riffling through the pages since this version also had drawings in them.
