The words weren’t loud. They didn’t have to be. Corvin flinched, almost imperceptibly. Jax’s fingers drummed once on the seat back behind me, a restless, defensive rhythm. I sat there, heart pounding, the Game’s label still burning above the windshield, and realized: This wasn’t just another round. The air changed, tension. The man demanded, "What did you do?" Kieran smiled, cold. Said, "Check your system."

How dare he even think that she would want him back in her life after all that he had done. But to her surprise she felt a pressure on her hand and not leaving eye contact she slowly moved her hand up to his, feeling the pain from the exertion she was putting on her own mind to try and defy him. Was she always like this? Was this truly who she was? What happened to the killer that didn’t fear anyone?
