The Last Dragon King Novels & Stories

The helipad became a stage of broken truths. The King, the most powerful Dragon in the realm, looked small as he knelt before Leo. He didn't reach out with the hands of a monarch, but with the trembling fingers of a father who had just found a miracle in a nightmare.

“You have finally returned.” His family’s sacred duty had always been to serve as the ultimate guardians, awaiting the Queen’s reawakening. I helped him to his feet, taking his hand in mine. Our palms were scorching hot. Behind us, the other two eggs, sensing my power, also burst open with two sharp cracks. Two more majestic young dragons shot out, circling us with excited cries. I looked at my mate, my children, and the world at my feet that was about to bow to me once more.

"I have seen the chosen one. The signs were unmistakable." A brief silence settled between them. "And?" Ventimus asked. "She has awakened, but she doesn't know it yet." Ventimus lowered his gaze thoughtfully. "And the King?" Lisa turned toward the shrine's entrance, where the full moon cast pale light across the ancient stones. "He has already begun to change. The Dragon has already chosen her." She stared down at her fingers and flexed them. "It is only the man who continues to resist." A quiet sigh escaped her. "He continues searching for an antidote."

Then suddenly, a blast of horn cut through the crowd, instantly silencing the noise. "All rise for His Supreme Majesty, King Xerxes and Her Majesty, Queen Valera!" Everyone immediately rose to their feet and bowed. I looked up, trying to catch a glimpse of the man who had sired the Commander. He looked nothing like Draven. They shared no resemblance whatsoever. King Xerxes was undeniably a good looking man, possessing the sharp bone structure common among high ranking dragons. Despite being centuries old, he still looked impossibly young like he was barely fifty.

“You are so beautiful, dark dragon,” Madchen reached her arms around his neck, never wavering her gaze. “As are you, Madchen, and I love you,” Drago crashed his lips onto hers, searing her mouth with his passion.Black wings erupted from his back, engulfing Madchen in a cocoon of protection. He didn’t care that he was standing stark naked in front of his gathering family, all he cared about was that Madchen accepted him for what he was, a dragon who had found his mate.

Lowering his gaze sadly, Luka whispered, "I know." Taking a deep breath, even though he didn't want to go in and do that which he disliked so much, Luka knew he had no choice, and ended up getting out of the car. Outside the temple, a large crowd of people was waiting for him, as his kingdom was very excited to see the wedding between one of the leader's sons and the son of a great general.

The heavily wooded steps made no noise I stomped down to ground level. I had kept my calm while we attended this, ‘festivity,’ as King Orion said, but it was far from any festivity. The people will celebrate on their own accord, that the second in command of the Rogue army is now gone. The Light Kingdom and our Dragon Tribe rejoiced, but all I could do was hold on to my mate, comfort her as her dragon destroyed the evil that now lay in ash.

Only the royal members of the Houses could shift into dragons. It was what made them special, what drew the line between commoners and royalty. There would be many members of the Royal Houses who would be leading the war for the White King. For his house, there was only one dragon, which was him. One dragon against many more; one inexperienced dragon against many that were experienced. Alaris knew the problem he would have to face soon, but he told no one of his worries; after all, if the head was afraid, then what would he rest do?

“Thank you Wynter for saving all dragonkin from the tyrannic rule of Florin.” “I’m sorry Dorin’s not here to see you where you belong.” “I had a dream last night. Dorin came to me in a cave where Typhon spoke to me. Dorin’s at peace in the dragon realm. Typhon told me that it was time for a new era to rise and that dragonkin everywhere would celebrate me as the new King and you at my right hand.” “With all due respect my King, I will have to decline.” “Typhon also said you would and that I should let you go.”
