Alacrimia

Alacrimia

She had been very smug for days when Adekunbi refused to call Femi Big Daddy. He chuckled at the memory. 'That's good, Dashing Dandy. That's good.' Lastborn beamed at the praise. 'Thank you, sir.' 'Did you say your father's house was down Alapata Street? I can seem to find it, or isn't it the house with a green roof again?' 'No, sir. I meant the road that leads off Alapata Street, it's very far down that road.' 'Oh, I think I remember now. That's where Kole's house is.'

Wonderfully written! The pace is so smooth✨ I absolutely loved the way the author described the scenes. The grammar is on point. I couldn't find a single typo either! Highly recommended!! Keep up the good work! ❤

This is one of the best Nigerian books I've come across after Chinua Achebe's and Chimamanda Adichie's. This work is a beautiful criss-cross between the contemporary world and the traditional world, and a book brimming with life, thanks to Eniiyi's fighting spirit. You don't want to miss this.

The Last Thing I Gave Him

The Last Thing I Gave Him

On the carpet behind it, torn into bright, unrecognizable pieces, were the toys. My baby's toys. Those toys had not come from a store. I had borrowed them from friends with children, mended each piece, washed them, dried them in the sun. Each one had been handed to me with a smile and the words "for your baby." Dante had taken them and given them to Serena's dog. I held my belly with one hand and left the estate. Il Nido occupied the top floors of a building in the city. I walked in. The receptionist stood when he saw me, his voice quick. "Madam, the Don is—"

She asked. "AND I'm confused seeing the fact that my parents own the HOUSE!!!" I screamed. The lady turned her head to the other people inside the building whom I was sure was staring at me and offered them a smile. Then she turned back to me, still staying polite. "What is the name and the location of the property miss?" She asked. "Belle." I replied. "Belle Madrigal. Block 624, 6th street, St Louis." I said calming myself down.

A Son's Last Lesson

A Son's Last Lesson

My first step would be to take back the house that belonged to me. The moment I entered the house, I saw woven bags filled with plastic bottles stacked by the shoe cabinet. Cardboard boxes also littered the ground. I knew my mother-in-law, Linda Beech, loved picking up trash. She would collect anything that was worth something, and the new house I'd bought had turned into her store room for trash. The more I saw, the angrier I got. I kicked the bags aside, and toys fell out. "Why did you touch my stuff? Do your eyes grow on the back of your head, or have you gone blind?" Linda screeched, as obnoxious as always.

One Last Request

One Last Request

As the candles I set up went out again and again, the passion inside of me died as well. Then, my phone, which had been quiet for so long, started to ring. I picked it up. "I gave Kat the spot for this year's retreat that’s meant for a family member. If you want anything, call my assistant. And I won't be home tonight. Kat just moved into her new place, and she's having a hard time settling in..." I looked at the cake on the table that was meant for our anniversary. The candle that was shaped like a 2 on the cake felt like a joke.

Last Chance

Last Chance

He nods his head and I move up the stairs, but when I reach the third floor instead of going to my room in the left wing I go to the right wing of the house where our small clinic is located. I head down the long wide hallway till I find his office and knock on the big wooden door. "Come in," Dr. Hart's muffled voice calls from the other side. When he sees me he stands from his chair and makes his way around his desk to shake my hand. Dr. Hart has been the house doctor for the last few years after his dad passed away with a heart attack and he took over. He's only a few years older than I am and is incredibly intelligent. He has done amazing work around here and I am very grateful for him.
