A final burst of clarity before the end. "Seraphina, is there anything you still want to do?" His voice trembled as he fought back tears. "I'll take you anywhere. I'll carry you there myself." I shook my head slightly. "I'm tired." Closing my eyes, I let out a long breath. "Conrad, in the next life, let's not meet again." The words snapped the final thread holding Conrad together. There was no forgiveness. No peace. Only complete exhaustion. I was not even willing to waste hatred on him anymore.

Very soon the tiredness started to fade as my eyes were now heavy and before I knew it I was asleep on the couch. The last thing that I could remember was when he told me that I should be good. Those were the last words he said before he left. Did I make a mistake by letting him in again?

I was going to die with an unfinished story. The last thing I saw was Theo beside me, fading away just like everything else.

I couldn't believe that I didn't start with this. "Don't worry about it. Ember, I have something important to tell you." He brushed past what I had just said like it wasn't huge. "Don't worry about it?" "Focus Ember. We're almost out of time. This will be the last time I will be speaking with you and Gabriel. Tonight is the last night I'll be able to speak with you this way. I love you so much Ember. Please know I'll be near you." He didn't look sad as he told me this. How could he not be breaking down right now. It felt like he had just ripped my heart out and stomped on it. We won't be able to talk again?

I reached for the emergency button when I realized that his coughs were intensifying, But, it was already too late. We could all sense him slipping away from us. I guess in a way, he was one of the lucky ones… those lucky ones that managed to transition in the presence of their loved ones.

I said to him, just from the voice of grandpa when he answered what I said, he seemed happy. "I-I love you, grandson, and keep doing what you're doing, don't side with evil." He said at the same time I wiped my tears in that situation and I was trying not to cry. But I couldn't do it because of what he said. "I-it's up to you to b-take care of your brother T-Tyr , be good and I-I want you to know t-that I'm going to send something, when you get it d-then you'll know everything—" Grandpa didn't finish what he was going to tell me, I just heard his breathing... I cried at that time because that was the last time I heard his voice.

He stopped and swallowed. When he spoke again, his voice was barely a whisper. "You were the last person with her." I stared at him. "What?" "Yesterday. You went to see her. You were there for hours. The staff said you were the last one in her room before she went to sleep." He took a step toward me. "What did you talk about? What did she say to you?" "Nothing. We just...she was tired. She told me about the tests. She asked me to...."
