That day, after breakfast, I took the satchel containing the broken urn, and made Cassian take me to the library inside the pack house. It was a huge, quiet room with rows and rows of books. At the very back, there were some old scrolls, and more books that looked like they might be restricted. The librarian was a nice old lady who had kept glancing at me until I found a desk out of sight. I got the urn out of the satchel, found two pieces that looked like they matched, and tried to join the edges together. I'd sort of been expecting that something magical would happen. Maybe the pieces would begin to glue themselves back together or something. No such thing happened.

The cavern was a chaos of blue light and ozone. The "Librarian" scrambled back, clutching his charred hand, his face twisting from a mask of aristocratic calm into one of frantic desperation. He had spent decades playing God with the lives of children, but he had never accounted for the one variable he couldn't control: a woman who had been underestimated for far too long. "Kill them!" the Librarian shrieked, but his voice was drowned out by the thunder of Sarah’s Vanguard team.

he hissed, then he turned around and whisper-yelled: “If you have nothing better to do, can you leave? We can’t focus on our work because of your noise.” The girls flushed in an ugly shade of red, gathering their things as fast as they could and bolted out of the library. The Librarian, Miss Eriah, yelled at them, her face contorted into one of annoyance and displeasure. I sighed. Finally. “Is this our final choice? Deadly Nightshade?” I asked Cassius, pointing at one of the plants in the book we’re reading. He turned his attention to it, carefully reading its description. “Everything sounds fine to me. I’m not knowledgeable about plants, so everything I read is incredible.”

"Have you seen Cassandra- Ah there you are." It was almost dusk when Ravine tried to find Cassandra to go home together. She was in the library, looking up on some spiritual and philosophical books. The locomotives will stop for the day in this area within a few minutes. Cassandra is aware, yet she wants to read more and more about these things.

I turned to go there when a voice stopped me. "Sir. Would you like us to sweep the area or follow discreetly?" I turned. The guy asking looked like he could crush brick with his jaw alone. "Just... don’t hover. Make it less weird." He nodded and motioned to the others. They fell back but kept formation. Silent shadows. Trying to look less confused than I was, I walked over to the main desk. A librarian stood there—early thirties maybe, sharp glasses, smart eyes. Her name tag said Cassandra.

“I don’t like them either especially after what she did to you.” I chuckle at the way her lips curled into a snarl. “Nothing I’m not used to.” Lila focuses on me, eyes sullen. “You shouldn’t be used to that. They are evil people.” She frowned. “Are you talking about us?” Cassandra’s annoyingly high-pitched echoed throughout the space. Cassandra wore a hot-pink latex mini dress, brushing wavy curls over her shoulder. She was going for barbie and instead looked like a highlighter. Meeting her overly zealous stare, taking a sip of my coffee.

“To find someone who’ll talk. Someone who knew Cassandra. Someone not afraid.” He blocked the door. “Let me come.” “No. You’re part of this, whether you want to be or not. I need answers without your shadow hovering over every conversation.” He hesitated, then stepped aside. The drive back into the city felt like navigating a minefield. Every shadow made me tense. Every car behind me felt like it followed too closely. My destination was a bookstore tucked away in the older part of town. The owner, Marisol, was once close to Cassandra. I remembered seeing her name on a list of personal contacts Cassandra had kept.

"I'm the new librarian." The words hit harder than I expected. A librarian? "...New?" I repeated slowly. "Since when?" "Since Alpha Cassian appointed me," he replied, watching me closely. "And he made it clear—very clear—that you are no longer permitted unsupervised access to the archives." My chest tightened. I shook my head in disbelief. Cassian wouldn’t. "You're done here, Luna," he continued. "I suggest you leave." Oh. That was bold. I stared at him for a long moment—then deliberately turned away, pulled out a chair, and sat.

The library was mostly empty when we arrived, just a few students scattered in the corners and the ever-watchful librarian sitting at her desk. Cassian didn’t hesitate. “Hey.” he called out, voice sharper than usual. “Everyone out. Now.” The librarian’s brows shot up. “Excuse me?” “You heard me,” he said, unbothered. “School authority can deal with me later if they want. Out. Please.” He ordered. When they didn’t move quickly enough for him. He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. “Now people! Haven’t got all day.” he yelled.

Cassandra’s POV The sun moved across the sky, and the air inside the warehouse grew hotter, thicker with dust. I drank water in small sips, careful not to let my throat dry out because I needed my voice. I needed to speak to officers, to citizens, to my father, to anyone who needed direction. I was speaking when one of the ministers approached. I recognised him immediately. He wasn’t one of the loud ones in court who shouted about honour and monarchy. He was one of the quieter ones. The kind who sat back, listened, and moved behind scenes. The kind who smiled politely while making deals that hurt people.
