He stared down at it, then at me, shock flickering across his features before the fight dragged his focus back to the next threat. “NEW FUNCTION DETECTED,” the librarian snarled, voice crackling. “CORRUPTED AUTHOR. ILLEGAL EDIT.” A volley of books arced toward us. I didn’t have time to parse titles. Burn, I thought, flinging the idea like a shield. Flame licked the edges of a chunk of them mid‑flight.

I demanded, my muscles coiled for a strike. ​“I am the Librarian,” the man said, his voice a dry whisper. “And you, Thorne, are a very unexpected variable.” ​“The Harvesters are gone,” I said, stepping closer. “The Seed is destroyed. Whatever you’re waiting for, it’s over.” ​The Librarian let out a soft, rattling laugh. “Over? No, Alpha. It is merely resetting. You think the Bone City was the only one? You think the First Architects were the only ones who tried to play god with the soil?”

So Eun wanted to ask for help, but everyone seems so busy to find their own, thus she decided to not disturb them. "I'm so tired", So Eun muttered to herself, frustrated and hopeless. She stared again at her sticky note, to verify the title and the author of the book. She decided to try one more time, with the same result. Annoyed, So Eun was about to give up when she saw a tall and handsome man walking towards her, pushing the book cart. With just one glance, she knew he is one of the librarians. He started to check book IDs one by one and put them back to their place.

But oh, it felt so intense. Their faces and bodies were so close, and the swaying of Harriet's waist on his lap created passionate friction. CLICK! Two maids walked into the library. They were joking together and walking through the bookcases until they saw the center area where the reading tables were. No one was there, but there were a few books scattered on the table. "Huh? Why are these books not returned?” asked one of them. "Just arrange it neatly there. Maybe Young Lord or Madam will come back for it," said the other.

"But you don't need to bother. I don't intend to stress myself. I just want to look around and read a book or two." The librarian didn't seem to hear my silent plea to be alone. "I will help you with the retrieval of the books." I finally allowed her to tag along with me because what other choice did I have? She helped me retrieve the books that I wanted then I dismissed her and read. I found myself returning to the library often and becoming better acquainted with the different librarians. Initially, I just read novels but on my second day at the library, I saw a military journal and thought to myself. What better way would I get to research on the mysterious Alpha King but in the library?

We both jumped, startled, to see a stern-looking librarian peering at us over a towering stack of books. “Ahem,” she cleared her throat pointedly. “No… public displays of affection are permitted in the Royal Library.” My cheeks flushed scarlet as Adrian threw me a sheepish grin. “Sorry, ma’am,” he mumbled. The librarian, however, didn’t seem entirely displeased. A hint of a smile played on her lips. “Just… keep it professional in here, alright?” she said, her voice softening slightly. With a final warning glance, she retreated back into the labyrinthine stacks of books. We both burst into laughter, the tension melting away completely.

"You want to save your friend, close the doors, stop the demons, fix everything you've broken. Yes?"
