A sharp voice cut through the chaos. I looked up to see the Lycan High Priest stepping through the ranks of the armored soldiers. Behind him, the Council members followed like vultures, their long robes dragging in the black-stained snow. They didn't look at Kaden with pity. They looked at him with clinical disgust. To the Lycan Empire, a King without a wolf was a broken tool. "The King has fallen," the Priest announced, his voice booming over the courtyard. "He has committed the ultimate heresy. He has surrendered the royal blood to save a cursed Omega."

What was he doing? The water started pouring into the tub. The loud noise made me flinch. Lycan King’s eyes remained on me, observing my every move. “I am not hiding anything from you. ” I tried again. This time, in a more asserting tone. And that’s where I was wrong. Again. Omegas are not assertive. They are always submissive. He smirked, stretching his veiny neck. My eyes traced his body as I contemplated whether I should run away now or wait a little longer to make the King believe me.

"I’m not going back, Theo. Not in two weeks, and not ever. I made a deal, and I’m staying until the job is done." Theo let out a dry, harsh laugh. He leaned against a pillar, crossing his massive arms. "You think you’re the first one to say that? Every girl who walks through these gates thinks she’s special. They think they’ll be the one to tame him, or the one to rule beside him." He leaned in a little closer, his voice dropping. "But let me let you in on a secret, Omega. Most women who enter this wing don’t leave. They either disappear when the King gets bored, or they end up in the cemetery behind the mountain. We don't do 'divorce' in the Lycan Kingdom. We just do replacements."

Some time later, voices began to fill the kitchen room as the omegas made their way inside. Great. Kataleya looked over the hundreds other dishes that needed scrubbing. It would be easier if another pair of hands or two would help. She turned to see the omegas happily talking amongst themselves. “Did you hear him? He said the Lycan King is coming. “I will bring your rejected mate with me after the banquet,” Julian announced later after he, his Beta, and Devon retreated into a conference room. Devon frowned, but only for a second before he cleared his expression. “I’m sorry, Your Majesty, I don’t understand.” Why would the Lycan King want to bring a worthless Omega with him? He was sure there were enough slaves at the palace. Besides, Julian had looked thoroughly disgusted earlier while observing Lyra. Why would he want her anywhere near him?

So each time there's a Lycan shift in the kingdom, they are burnt to death with magic or if they are lucky enough, they are dumped near the forest of doom. I whispered. He nodded and replied, "Exactly, you should be at the palace." Palace? What was he referring to? Noticing my bewilderment, he sat down and pulled me onto his lap, turning my head to meet his gaze. "Do you know how long I have waited for this day, mate? Your place is with me in my palace, which is now yours. I am the lycan king." My eyes widened in disbelief. Could it be true? Was he really claiming to be a lycan, and not just any lycan, but the king? Yet here I was, just an omega, literally sitting on the lap of a lycan king tightly held.
