Jamal’s POV The world shook again. The heat from the pit rolled over me until sweat dripped down my neck. I tried to stand but the ground kept trembling under my feet. The mimic stared at the rising creature, then turned sharply toward me. “You feel that, do you not,” she whispered. I ignored her. “Melissa. Stay out. Please stay out.” The pit roared again. A sound like fire snapping against stone. The mimic smiled. “She is stepping in.”

I steadied myself, palms flat on the cold, concrete floor. "I didn't hear you," Mimi mocked, her voice dripping with malice. "We didn't hear you. You are what?" A wave of nausea washed over me, but I managed to mutter, "I'm sorry." Mimi's response was swift and brutal. She ground her heel into my fingers, crushing them beneath her weight. I winced, pain shooting through my hand. "Good," she hissed, releasing her grip. "Know your place, you slut." With that, she turned and walked away, leaving me seething.

Suddenly, a loud, aggressive fist banged against the outside of the wooden door. “Hello? Is anyone in there?” A voice called from the hall. The handle rattled. “We need the mirror. Next group’s up in two minutes.” Jace froze. His whole body locked up against mine. His fingers dug into my waist, hard, like he was fighting himself. He pulled back. Just like that, the heat was gone. My legs felt weak and I had to catch myself on the counter. I turned around and looked at him. Jace was already straightening his jacket. His face was blank again. Cold. Professional. Like nothing had happened. But his eyes were dark, and they were still on me. He did not say anything.

Still the jealousy and anger was consuming him worst. He didn’t know why he was so angry at the first place. He started off with a bet. He knew Jack was pure and loyal. He trusted him. But as they say, when you are not loyal, you see the world betraying you. He lost the count of how many times he lashed Jack's flawless broad back. He loved Jack's skin. Pale white and flawlessly smooth. And now it was red in lashes. He stopped his hand when he was breathless. And turned to gulp a glass of whiskey before filling it again and went to the bed to find Jack whimpering in pain, yet he wasn’t crying loud. Not to anger him more.

Chatting with her was Captain Wilkes. Without being able to help it, a stab of pain tore through William’s heart. When his wife laughed, the invisible knife in William’s chest twisted. He breathed slow, calming his heart. Mercedes needed to act this way. They must not make the captain suspicious, especially now. William forced a laugh. “It doesn’t appear she has gone back to Captain Wilkes. It looks like she is having a friendly conversation.” “If you keep telling yourself that, perhaps you will believe it.” William fisted his hands, feeling the urge to punch his business partner in the face. “I must say, Kennedy, the green monster of jealousy has taken hold of you again.” He shook his head.

She asked herself. The night came down on her heavily, she was dying to sleep it had already passed her bed time. She was an organized freak. Never had twelve P.M caught her up on a work night. She glanced up to the door and met his eyes, glaring into her soul. What was with that look? She'd seen that very same look before, on the first night they'd met, that look was buried deep in her memory. She could recognize it anywhere. She wanted to know if that was the look she'd receive everyday if she agreed to stay by his side. I wondered possessively as I felt myself being suffocated with fury to the unknown "rival wolf."
