The Monster Under My Bed Book Novels & Stories

—Flashback— “Bronx, there’s a monster in my closet. Maybe it’s a witch.” I peek into his room. He’s reading a book. I bet it doesn’t have pictures. He says books with pictures are little kid books. I like books with pictures though. Maybe when I’m ten like him, I won’t like picture books anymore? That sounds boring. I’ll like picture books forever. “There’s no monster or witch in your closet.” He keeps reading. “It’s your imagination.”

“I will make interestinger books than our story books.” “More interesting, honey,” I corrected, ruffling his soft locks. “You're no longer interested in becoming a lawyer?” “No, I will be a lawyer and author together.” He stated. “That's good, sweetie. I believe in you.” I replied, before pressing kisses on his forehead and going over to Liam's bed to do the same. Afterward, I returned the story book to the bookshelf, turned off the light before heading out of the room. Barely a week after we moved into our new place, Liam had claimed that the monster beneath his bed had returned, and he couldn't sleep alone anymore.

he replied, "That movie has got you paranoid, huh?" He then took my hand and put a flashlight in it. I switched it on and we were both immediately illuminated. "Better, you little baby?" he asked. I nodded, "Can we go upstairs?" I asked, "I need to be under the bedsheets. Everyone knows monsters can't get you from under your bedsheets." He smiled and took my hands, "Come on." With the light of the flashlight, he led me upstairs and tucked me into the bed. "Wow, look how safe you are now," he said, "These sheets could protect you from anything."

She objected, pushing my hands away. “No, Marissa. You know it's bed time. Early to bed, early to rise." I said, insisting as I ran my fingers through her silky hair, brushing back a few strands that fell across her eyes. “No. I don't wanna stay alone in the dark.” She pleaded, gripping me by the elbow. "I'm afraid of monsters." She said, “There are no monsters in here, Baby. You need not fear. Besides, my room is just next door in case you want me to come over.” I said assuringly.

I recalled crawling to the wine bar and opening a bottle of wine, I also recalled drinking from the bottle and then turning into the glass, but that was the last thing I remembered. Jus then, it dawned on me and in that instant, I snapped back to the present and fixed my gaze back on Nanny Ruth. "Wait! How did I get to the bed?" I asked, my brows furrowing. I was both surprise and confused. Leonard wasn't in the room, and I didn't need anyone to tell me he couldn't have carried me to the bed. As far as I knew, he was a monster who lacked sympathy and compassion for anyone.

I CHECKED OVER THE list that Auth had given me of this week's tasks, making sure I had done all of them. I had just finished returning a monster to its book after it had escaped. Usually, something like that wouldn’t be my priority; however, the monster had somehow managed to get into another book. It had caused some damage to the book and nearly killed one of the main characters while it was there. Having failed to find the monster before it was seen, it was now in the book. It was a good thing I wasn’t seen, otherwise Auth couldn’t have written it off since I don’t exactly fit the theme of the book.

"Buona notte, Tesoro." My mother kissed my cheek and I managed to smile, my brows flickering. "Goodnight Mom," I replied to her and she watched me walk into my room. I locked the door behind me when I heard her footsteps which seemed to be leading down the hallway I took a short walk to my closet, unbuttoned my shirt, and threw it onto the bed, I took a black sweatshirt which I wore with a coat before walking to the bookshelf where I pushed the secret button which caused the bookshelf to open revealing the stairs that led down the underground bedroom where I get my pleasure.

Then, from outside: "You're awake?" I went tense. He was standing on the other side of the door, and he didn't come in. "Do you want me to come in?" I gripped the blanket. After a long moment I said, my voice scraped and rough. "I dreamed about the coffin again." The corridor was silent for a moment. Then, very quietly. "Was it the same as that night?" "Yes." I paused. "My mother's Turning failed. She died in one. So I'm afraid of the dark, afraid of small closed spaces."

I don't want him getting rabies and there is no way of knowing what is exactly causing it. Seeing something out of the corner of my eye, I turn sharply but can't see anything. I could have sworn that something dashed under the bed. So instead of waiting for my parents to come home, I cautiously walk over to the bed and kneel to look underneath. When I raise the covers, I peer under my bed and don't see anything except for a few dust bunnies. As I stand back up, I start to hear the scratching noise again. "Scrrrrratch. Scrrrrrrrrratch."

My mind conjured a bestiary of horrors: rats with evil, gleaming eyes, scuttling spiders the size of tea saucers, multi-legged centipedes, leathery bats… The space under the bed was a dark, fathomless abyss. ‘Go on. Have a look,’ he encouraged, giving me a nudge in the small of my back.
