In her hands, she held a very beat-up copy of ‘Of Mice and Men. “Oh, Harriet! Thank you!” I squeezed my best friend before clutching the book to my chest. She grinned at me before she turned back to run back to where Matt was. I found my feet leading me back towards the creek. Away from the burned buildings, away from the chard remains of the carnival, and away from the dead. The thought of the packhouse was suffocating on a carefree regular day. Now there was over three times the amount of people shoved in there. For some reason, I felt like the creek was where I should be, like something in my gut was pulling me there.

I can see from my peripheral vision that they'll just murmur something whenever we come across them. Yuji started to run faster. He's already ahead of me. He's running so fast I am having a hard time coping with him. My knees are so tired and I am already catching my breath. Still, I did not stop. I promised the lady that I will catch the thief. The thief turned left so we followed him. The gap between him and Yuji is getting smaller! The three of us kept running and running until we came to a dead end. I realized just now that we are on a narrow street. There are no houses nor any buildings that can be seen from here. We are far from the crowded area earlier.

Though I have read it numerous times, it’s an epic book. I run my finger on the letters on the cover page of the book. The letters reads: THE OUTSIDERS. I sigh satisfyingly and begin my book. In a minute, I’m already lost in the world of ‘Ponyboy Curtis’, the book’s narrator.

He started reading what started with an explanation of what the book was all about. That part was interesting as it started with a warning that everyone in the book was considered an outcast and no longer a member of the hunters' clan. The explanation began on how the persons found within the enclosure of the book had broken laws essential to the clan or had, in some ways, stood against the clan, thereby declaring themselves enemies to the great course of duty. They would neither be associated with nor their offspring, as no one would have a seed of disloyalty in their midst.
