Chapter 1: The Alpha's Possession** Her bare feet padded across the hard ground as she ran with all her might. The leaves in the vast forest hindered her sight, but she pushed them aside, desperate to escape. Her eyes were red and swollen, her cheeks puffy from crying nonstop for what felt like an eternity. "Thief! Catch that thief!" she heard the head guard shout behind her, and the sound of approaching footsteps grew louder, all heading in her direction.

I got my balance back, and didn't bother to look at him but faced the door which was now open, held the frame and speedily walked outside, stood by the door, waiting for him to come out and lead the way as they usually do. "Now move!" He pushed me again, and I fell against the wall outside- on someone. Another guy was there when I looked. And before I took proper notice of him, the second guy pushed me away from him and I landed on the hard, wooden floor. I screamed as my hand struck the ground, making me feel a slight shifting in my bones. I struggled to get up when I saw the first guy walking towards me, I began walking ahead of him unhesitatingly as the second followed behind him.

The rain in Chapter One had been a backdrop for fear. It was cold, confusing, and overwhelming. The rain in Chapter Seventy-Eight was just weather. And weather was a variable we knew how to calculate. I watched from the shadows of the garage bay as three black SUVs screeched to a halt on the wet gravel. In the original timeline, I had been cowering behind a tool chest, clutching a wrench like a lifeline, terrified that these men were coming to kill me for a debt I didn't owe. Dax had been bleeding, desperate, and defensive.

‘Please, you need to leave’ She repeated. ‘Whats going on?’ Jemma suddenly appeared but as soon as she saw what was unfolding, he grabbed my arm and pulled me kicking and screaming from the room, I just kept repeating that I couldn’t leave him, that I wasn’t going to, but it was no use. No one was listening to me… ******************************************************* The next chapter is the final!!!!!!!

I say hurriedly as I run forward and knock the bowl from the girl’s hands just as the first man drops to the ground, convulsing. Chad jumps to his feet. He hasn’t eaten. Many of them haven’t. This is a disaster. More men drop. Chad grabs me hard, his claws slipping into my shoulders. “What did you do?” “Nothing,” I scream struggling to get free. “The fuck you didn’t!” he yells, looking around at his men writhing on the ground. “Run!” I yell at the girls. Maybe I was trapped, but they could get free. They don’t move. Mary looks petrified.

I follow the droplets till my eyes lay on a frightful sight. My heart sinks as I see an unconscious Rosemary with blood running from her nose , her dress dirtied by the earths soil – she looks so fragile , like a hurt puppy. I gently scooped her up and made my way to the hall – So many questions are running through my mind ; who did this? Did she maybe fall? Who would want to hurt such an innocent person? No matter what I thought , one thing was very clear – I will kill the person who has done this!

Stopping is how they catch you. I drop to the ground on the other side, landing badly, my ankle screaming in protest. I bite my sleeve to keep from crying out. The taste of dirt fills my mouth. Mud coats my knees, my hands, my skin but for the first time, no one yells at me for it. I’m outside. The orphanage looms behind me, dark and hulking, its windows like empty eyes. From here, it looks almost peaceful. It’s not. I turn and run.

Jax said. “We’re going to take it apart with the truth.” “I know,” he said. “I’ve been watching you do it.” Outside, the city moved through its evening. The wards hummed clean and uncompromised. The first day of the new phase was almost done. Nova let herself rest.  [End of Chapter 10]
