A tremor raced through the sanctum. Behind her, figures began to enter. Father Michael. Catherine. The Seers. The wounded resistance, limping but alive, bearing their banners and broken weapons. The last council was no longer the Elders’ domain. It belonged to the people. Isabella stepped forward. Her voice echoed. "I invoke the Founding Pact." A gasp rippled through the gathered crowd. Sorath froze. "That... that pact was sealed in silence before this world had breath. It was erased."

Chris’s POV I stared at the calendar on my desk. Tomorrow. That was the day I would go back to see her. Diana. She probably still knew me as “Mr. Bright,” the soft-spoken investor who tasted her pastries and asked too many questions. But tomorrow, I would tell her the truth. No more hiding. No more mystery. She deserved to know everything. I opened my drawer and pulled out the small leather notebook I always carried. I flipped to a fresh page and wrote across the top: “The Night I Disappeared”

The room suddenly felt colder now, quieter too, and no matter how hard I tried calming myself down, one terrifying thought kept repeating loudly inside my head. What exactly was Dante trying to do? I swallowed hard and quickly flipped through the remaining pages faster now, my heartbeat becoming louder with every second. Then suddenly something slipped loose from inside the file. A document. It landed softly across the desk. At first I barely paid attention to it. Until my eyes landed on the words written boldly across the top. Marriage Contract. My entire body froze. Slowly, almost nervously now, I picked it up from the desk and stared at it harder.

The words landed differently than I expected. An Alpha Pact was not a handshake. It was not a promise, not in any sense that the word carried in ordinary usage. It was an ancient rite threaded back to the founding wolf, the first of their kind, the original blood from which every Alpha line descended, and it had teeth. Real teeth. Breaking an Alpha Pact did not simply dissolve the agreement. It unraveled the wolf who had made it, slowly and without mercy, until there was nothing left but the echo of what they had sworn and failed to keep.

*Jaedon’s POV* “You’re saying war?” My best friend and Beta, Peter Normandy raised his eyebrows at me. Peter and I had met when we were children. Our pack, Snow Creek, had taken over his own pack Everforest. Now, the remaining joined us and pledged their loyalty. It hasn’t been a terrible thing for them though. We didn’t have to kill anyone. Rivers unconscious with her heavy book. Allie was out partying with her boyfriend of that time and some of his friends. She’d informed me that she’d be spending the night at his place. So one can only imagine my fear when the door to our apartment opened all of a sudden at half past ten that night. That combined with Mr. Rivers’ booming voice calling out for his daughter was one of the scariest thing I’d ever experienced in my life. I was still in shock while my defense mechanism and my adrenaline kicked in. I’d watched in absolute horror as the book I was holding flew out of my hands with the intent of giving the man a serious concussion- and it would have, if he hadn’t ducked down on time.

Guard would never tolerate anyone to take Reader from him. "My place is with you," Reader agreed quietly before darting a glance at Guard, "We remain together on this world? Pact?" Guard stilled at the request. Pacts were sacred vows among the Zen. No one broke a pact without the reason falling to death or disaster.
