The Red Fairy Book Novels & Stories

He became kinder to the servants and all those around him. He smiled at Edwina who was surrounded by books on the floor of his library and picked her up. “Do you want me to read them to you?” he asked with a sparkle in his eyes. Edwina nodded fervently. She didn’t know at the time what this “reading” was but she knew she wanted to know all about the strange objects she had found. He moved her over to a reading chair by the fire and picked up the most colorful book she had stolen from the shelves. It was a book about local fairy tales. He began to read to her, his voice steady and deep.

They are small, but they help humans and grant wishes sometimes. "The fairies that live in this forest are very small creatures with black oval shapes eyes and dark wings. They stay inside the roots. They hate every other creature. They are usually asleep all the time but when someone disturbs them means they are looking for death. If they open their eyes, then the game is over. Although they are not as powerful as me, you see" There he goes again, bragging. [So the red stones?] "The fairy's birth. The red stones are their children. It stays as a stone for almost a decade before the stone becomes soft and cracks into a newborn fairy"

“The one about the lonely princess and the dragon who took her away.” “That one’s sad, honey. Let’s read something happier.” I reached for the book on my nightstand, a massive, leather-bound volume of classic fairy tales that I kept handy for nights like this. I opened it to a random page, settling on a story about a mischievous tooth fairy. My voice was soft and dramatic as I began to read. “...and the fairy, with a flick of her tiny tooth-shaped wand, transformed the hunter’s prize-winning hound into a perfect little frog...”

" Little Red Riding Hood happily agreed and set off through the village, waving at familiar faces and exchanging warm greetings. The villagers often warned her about the mysterious creatures lurking within the depths of the forest, but Little Red Riding Hood was fearless and believed in the goodness of the world. As she ventured deeper into the woods, the trees grew taller and the path became less distinct. It was in this eerie but captivating forest that she encountered her first supernatural species—an elegant fairy with glistening wings, sitting atop a toadstool. "Excuse me, dear fairy," Little Red Riding Hood said with a polite curtsy, "Have you seen my grandmother's house around here?"

“Do you understand me?” The mage reached into my bag and plucked out his book. “Most fairy creatures speak the common tongue,” he told me, smoothing the cover of the book beneath his fingers covetously. “He should... ah, see.” The little fairy man stepped onto my hand and let me transfer him into the bag. “He’ll eat whatever you have in there,” Rivyn cautioned me. “Fairies are always hungry.” “I caught a rabbit,” I reclaimed it from the grasses. “Oh, good,” he looked pleased. “I am hungry.”

In an instant, her jaw dropped, witnessing the unusual features of every animal. One had four eyes, while others had flowers growing from their antlers. The critters on the woman’s lap moved, softly bumping their scarlet nose against her. Their gem-like eyes widened as their irises dilated in excitement. Daisy said quietly, almost too quietly to be heard. Black and red swirled around the Sluagh fairy, tighter and tighter, pulsing and throbbing, smaller and smaller until at last there was nothing left except for the book floating mid-air The room returned to normal as it was before the fight. Tyramon asked, I felt like slapping her for talking this way but Rosa interrupted before I could even take a step closer to her. "If a fairy Princess or the Guardian of the fairy realm falls in love with someone other than her kind or her Betrothed, the beloved would be in danger," Rosa read from a book and we all listened quietly. "Where did you get that?" Tryamon asked, her voice a mix of worry, panic, fear and something I couldn't place my finger on. "This dusty shelf," Rosa pointed at the bookshelf beside her. "Let me see," Leon rushed to Rosa and took the book forcefully, " which page was it?" He asked, his eyes darting from Rosa to the ancient looking book.
