Even when they did not say it out loud. The guards were already giving up. By the looks of it, the watchman would not give away anything out of his mouth. Nothing was coming out of his mouth until his last breath. The watchman was the only key to making his mate happy. And right now, what he planned to do was a dangerous road, but it was the only way to help Iyya.

In the blackness, she heard footsteps. "They've come," a voice whispered. She turned. It was Miriam, the church’s groundskeeper. But her eyes were glowing faintly. "You're not alone anymore," Miriam said. "The Watchers have returned." Isabella had heard of them—legends buried beneath canon law and cloaked in myth.
