The mark on my hand pulsed in answer, and for a moment, I felt the heartbeat of the land — faint, uneven, but still there. Then I heard it. A whisper. Soft at first, like the rustle of leaves, but then clearer — words carried on the wind. Remember. My throat tightened. “Lyanna?” I whispered. But it wasn’t her voice. This one was younger, rawer, trembling with emotion. You promised you’d come back. I froze. “Who are you?” The whisper came again, closer this time. You left us in the dark. The air shimmered before me, and for an instant, I saw shapes — outlines of wolves moving through mist. Dozens of them. Their eyes glowed faintly, their forms translucent.

“Don’t you see, Ms. Lopez? You are the business… and Sandra is personal.” Jessica’s chest tightened, fury surging through her veins. Yet instead of lashing out, she could only gape at him, stunned by the weight of his words. Why did every sentence from his lips feel like an assault, each one a deliberate insult cutting straight to the core of her being? “Ah… since we’re already talking, I might as well tell you,” Clark continued smoothly. “Forget everything I said before. Bluestar will publish your books. I’ll accept every condition your office demands… in exchange for just one of mine-"

"Please, someone, help me. I can't see. It's so dark." Amon's shadows pushed into the room first, illuminating it. The Whisper materialized in the center; it was a vaguely humanoid shape made of compressed sound waves. When it saw us, the woman's voice distorted into something cracky. "Help. Me. Please." Then it lunged. Amon caught it with his shadows, but the creature was slippery and hard to hold. I moved in from the side, and my knife found its core. It was a frequency generator. The blade struck true. The Whisper's form destabilized, sound waves scattering in all directions before it dissolved completely.

But when I was about to put the book back on the shelf, my hand gripped the book tighter. "Oh, Moon Goddess," cried Eliz, stepping back to avoid me. A blue light flashed out of the book, and suddenly the wind was fast enough to open all the sheets of the book before my eyes. I felt my iris come to light when I saw the book in my hand. There are so many whispers that I hear, and they seem to be scrambling to know me. Some of them whispered while singing familiar melodies to my ears.

Without her realizing it, her long-buried grievances seemed to be easing away. Her eyes turned watery. The lyrics were a bunch of simple and straightforward words, yet she found herself completely absorbed in them. "Whisper of the Silence." Danise smiled. "Lovely song, isn't it?" "Whisper... of the Silence?" A glimmer appeared in her lifeless gaze. "Such a beautiful name. Is this your latest work?" "How I wish. It's Kyle." Staring into her eyes, he continued, "He composed it with hopes that it could reach the ears of somebody he misses."

A chilling voice fanned against my neck. I spun around. Seeing the dark haired man I saw from earlier. I flashed him a glare before dashing into the crowd. Only to be yanked back suddenly. My head spun in protest as I was now nearly sprawled against him. He had grabbed my wrist! The nerve of this guy! He chuckled “Love, lest me I remind you.” I felt him move closer his lips now brushing my ear. “Don’t move.” His commanding voice came from behind me once more. I replied by growling at him. Flashing my elongated canines in his face. “Release me, you bastard!” I hissed squirming.

Aki said before tears started falling from her eyes. Neither of them could comfort Aki because they couldn't believe it themselves. "I've been following you guys since I saw you talking secretly every night. I learned about the ghoul thing, which makes me want to mock you two. But I thought there was some catch because something's fishy between you two. Until I saw that book," Aki said. She was referring to the book she stole from Raia that day. The other two looked at her while listening to what she was saying.

The streets were lined with flower beds in full bloom, local shops with hand-painted signs and people who nodded as they passed, faces a little older, a little wiser, but kind nonetheless. Cassie wandered slowly, hands in her pockets, letting her steps take her where they pleased. Her first stop was the bookstore, Willow Pages, a two-story shop that still smelled of pinewood shelves and well-loved novels. She didn’t stay long but bought a worn paperback she had once read in high school, more for the nostalgia than the plot.

His voice sounded doubled, a deep, vibrating undertone hidden beneath his usual calm demeanor. Siron took a step back, his back hitting the cold stone of a shattered headstone. The scent of damp earth and ozone still hung in the air among the temple ruins. Elara had already vanished, leaving behind a warning that thrummed in his head: The Whisperer.
