I asked, my voice barely a whisper, our gazes locked, the unspoken words hanging heavy between them.
A gasp escaped my lips as the darkness surrounding the fountain was suddenly pierced by the soft glow of strategically placed lights. The gentle cascade of water, previously still, now flowed, the sound a soft counterpoint to the pounding of my heart.
