She knew the cleanup team would arrive soon. They exited the woods and got back into the car. Everyone was silent, until Ruth finally spoke again. “Those people you saw... they’re called the Hunters. Not the deer-and-rabbit kind. The ones who bear hatred for werewolves. They pretty much want to wipe every werewolf off the map. Good or bad, it doesn’t matter to them.” She paused and glanced at them. “Alex, you look like you just got indigestion. Are you okay?” Alexander looked up slowly, worry all over his face. “Those two back there...” he muttered.

I mean, even if I were, I would probably reject him, or he would reject me. Witches and Wolves do not mix; we are convenient allies when we both share a common goal. We are not friends, and we certainly are not lovers. I am from a long line of witches here in Chelan; my family is what you call witch royalty. The family line dates to the 18th century. Xavier is next in line to be Alpha of the Tukwila Pack. The strongest pack in the state of Washington. He will need a strong queen to serve at his side, but I do not plan to be me.

“Spill.” Marcus ran a hand down his face, exhaling heavily. “There are werewolf hunters near the territory. Too close.” My jaw tightened. “How close?” “Close enough to be a problem. With the pack run happening, I can’t leave to handle it myself. I need you to go, take some men—” “You want me to,” I said flatly, cutting him off. Marcus nodded, his tone grim. “Yes.” My hands curled into fists at my sides. The hunters were becoming a bigger problem again. Even after we’d destroyed LyRI months ago, they were rebuilding, finding new ways to hunt us, to capture wolves.

Show yourself.” he said and stayed behind him Two people came out and bowed to me. I was shocked “ Who are you? “ I asked “ We are hunters just like you and your dad was our leader. We heard from your uncle that he is dead and since then we have been watching you.” he explained

I nodded to Xavier, he had every right to hate me, and if that made him feel better, then I would take it. I closed my eyes as he raised the knife and waited for him to plunge it deep into my chest. In the middle was herb garden, small glowing orbs floated around it as blue butterflies fluttered about happily. Gerwulf placed me at one of the tables and instructed me to remove my shirt. I carefully pulled my warm sweater off and awkwardly dangled my legs from the side. "A true witch is hard to kill. Hylda thought cutting her throat would do the trick, but nope," Gerwulf turned towards me with a small glass pot in his hand. He opened it and rubbed the salve onto the bite marks. "How do you kill a witch then?" "It's much more gruesome than that. You have to pierce the heart, separate the head, and burn the body. Otherwise they'll just heal. How fast depends on how much damage they take."

everyone says slowly. “When I was doing research to look for possible weaknesses of mythical creatures, I read a hunter case from a long time ago about a witch that could cast a curse or hex on people she didn’t want spilling her secrets. Any time that one of those people started to talk, they would go still then all of sudden seizure out and die. I think whoever this witch is has done something like that.” This was also when I was researching mates, but they didn’t need to know that. “That would explain why they won’t talk, even after being tortured,” Dean said.

I don’t see him arrive. One second, the Witch hunters in front of me are stepping closer, their weapons humming with that sick, demonic energy, and the next there's a rustle in the woods that I only heard from six weeks ago. My magic is still flaring as i watch the witch hunter to my left drop. He hits the ground with a thud. There's no warning, no sound beyond the wet, bloody choke that leaves his throat as his body collapses to the forest floor.
