“You cannot send someone over here, that is what this is about. There is no story, Susan so call the dogs off.” She lets out a snort. “Don’t fool me, Roxy. I saw your original picture of an impressive wolf. Rumor has it from one of our team that there are rogue wolves everywhere in Anchorage. And apparently, they are larger than any other wolf to have been seen by the human eye.”

Damien’s empty eyes. “I believe you,” Lucas said quietly. I blinked. “You believe a woman who said she died and came back?” “Yes.” “Why?” “Because my wolf is crazy about you,” he said. “And he hates lies.” A stupid little sound left me before I could trap it. I covered it with a scoff. “Your wolf is desperate,” I said. “He would howl for a shoe if the Moon Goddess wrapped it in a bond.” His lips lifted a bit. “No,” he said. “He’s picky. It drove my parents insane.”

"Try that again and I’m marking you with pepper spray." He seems unsatisfied and wants to argue when we hear long howls. It slices the silent night. I freeze. He straightens. My ears perk up. I step toward the window, eyes narrowing. Another howl follows, this time closer—then another. It's getting louder. "Are those wolves? Wolves in Hollywood?" I ask unsurely.

I answer him making him chuckle. "We are a little bit more complicated, when a wolf is born his soul is cut in half one in his body and the second in a submissive body, we complete each other. We never die, but if you hurt our mate, or if our submissive mate dies, we would as well," he says. "Wolves are loyal?" I ask him, I knew that vampires aren't, my whole existence is a big clue. "We are, we would never cheat on our mate," he says which made me think.

Just before they got to the Blade lake river, they heard the howl once more and a big black wolf leaped out of the woods, the wolf ripped off the head of one of the guards and disappeared into the woods again- leaving the guard headless on the floor with his horse running off into the dark. They didn't stop riding hard, they kept fleeing while shooting arrows in every direction- hoping to hit the strange beast with their arrows.

Oscar vigorously shook his head. “It was more than just being in pain,” he said. “Most of the time, wolves bond with us. It’s on rare occasions that we meet what we’d call a rebel. You have before you, one of the rebels. We don’t meet wolves of his nature often, thank goodness.” I slid my fingers through the wired opening so that the wolf could lick them. “That’s so difficult to believe,” I mused. “Lisa,” Kenzie warned, “don’t press your luck.”

Sure, I was trying to protect her—I couldn’t have known that the beast’s interest in her wasn’t going to get her hurt, but it’d be next to impossible to explain that. I didn’t want to explain it. She either wouldn’t believe me, or she’d be terrified. The last thing I wanted was for anyone in the village to know the truth about me. There wasn’t a doubt in my mind that I’d either have an angry mob or the government showing up at my door, and then Alex would lose the last remaining family she had. A fox skittered by, unbothered by my presence. Ever since I became a werewolf the animals in the forest have treated me like one of them. In some ways, it was peaceful.

But his shaking voice failed him, “I– I don’t th– think that’s how you sho– should speak to m– me.” Remus scoffed and that seemed to have embarrassed Winfred more, “If I abolish The Order, you’re finished!” He said, screaming again. “Go on. Do it.” Remus challenged. “End your race’s agreement with the Wolves. See if we care.” The Betas started laughing at this which added to Winfred’s increasing shame. He wanted to show his power, but it seemed like power was being shown to him. “Watch how you talk to me, you disrespectful dogs!” He screeched.

I suppose being a wolf their sense of smell must be enhanced, like with elves and our sense of hearing. And speaking of smells, Alpha Jake’s one lingers around, dancing around me, invitingly. He was very handsome. Sporting a five o’clock shadow, dusty blonde hair and warm dark brown eyes. He was putting to shame a lot of the most good looking elves I knew. I noticed some scars on his arms and drawings on his skin. He was muscular and well defined. I really have to stop looking at him. When I mustered the courage to reveal myself, he kept staring at me. I suppose he never heard of my species either, and I must look very strange to him.
