"After the gorge, when he heard the rogue's rumors about the White Demon. The ancient texts in the Blackwood library. The first White Lycan Queen was named Astra. He connected the myths to the scent he caught." "He's fishing," Alaric said immediately, his strategic mind engaging. He stepped closer, his voice dropping. "He has no proof, Elara. He smelled you once, briefly, in the middle of a battlefield. He read an old book. He is throwing out a name hoping you will flinch and confirm his suspicions. Did you confirm it?" "No," I said, though my stomach churned. "I froze. But I didn't take off the mask. I didn't answer him."

The shadows boiled and evaporated wherever my light touched them, unable to withstand the absolute purity of the awakening. Fenrir stopped his mocking laughter. He took a hesitant step back, his massive shadow-wolf features contorting in sheer shock. His obsidian eyes widened as he stared at the blinding pillar of fire I had become. He recognized this light. He had not seen it for a thousand years. He realized, with a creeping dread that finally pierced his arrogance, that I had awakened the full, primordial power of the first Lycan Queen—the very power that had been designed to bring him to his knees.

“To the Council.” My heart dropped. “What did she say?” He unrolled the scroll and read aloud, his voice flat "To the esteemed Council of Frost Bane and the Moonspire Alliance, It has come to my attention that the Lycan King has grown… compromised. Since the arrival of the breeder Morwenna Ashbourne, his decisions have grown violent, and unbefitting the throne. I fear she has ensnared him with manipulation—or worse. If allowed to continue, she will become the downfall of the pack.

The power and energy she gave off made his wolf crazy and he wanted her as his own. “What is it that you want? If I allow you to help me?” Lance said, trying to take back authority. “Well every King needs a Queen. Every Alpha needs a Luna.” Nora said, licking her lips as if they were dry. “You have a destined mate. The moon goddess blessed you with Jace and you're telling me that you want to walk away from that.” Lance said with a growl, not believing her.

she began gently, "but we don't exactly have the authority to overrule Prince Antonio's decision." "But she's a member of this pack!" Nora protested stubbornly. "She may be," replied Prince Antonio in his steely, unyielding voice. His gaze was icy as he turned to face Estrada, yet not unkind. "But the law is clear." "Your laws!" Nora interrupted, pointing a shaking finger at Prince Antonio. Her face was red, and her eyes burnt with fiery defiance. "Those are the laws of Lycans, not werewolves!" Prince Antonio, despite his icy countenance, waited patiently as Nora vented her frustrations. His blue eyes flicked only once to Estrada, who stood solemnly quiet.

“Will you please just leave me alone?” Theo is the one who steps in next, pushing me back and away from the stage. “Alpha, Daniel has a point. There’s no use interrupting the ceremony over nothing--” “This is not nothing,” I say through gritted teeth. “Now move out of my way.” “No.” He stays there and is starting to look angry. “This is disgraceful and embarrassing, not to mention confusing as all hell. We get it, we are surprised that she’s here and she’s alive and she’s actually the next Lycan Queen of a kingdom. We didn’t expect that too. None of us did, and no one certainly expected her to be betrothed. . . .”

“Den of which pack? Rank? Political position?” The question caught me completely off guard. I froze, my mind scrambling for words. “I—I —-” “She’s now Nora Blackwood,” Derek’s voice cut in smoothly, “The queen of the Lycan King. I think that’s what matters.” His gaze never left the queen mother’s face as he said it. She sipped her drink, the faintest smile tugging at her lips. Then she nodded slowly. “I guess she’s just some dirty rag that got cleaned up,” she said.

For a bloodline like hers, there has to be a family tree or something. There’s a faint ache in my handhand, a painful reminder of what I had done. I couldn’t have lost a claw, for me to come up with nothing. I pull out another bookbook. Its title reads; Correspondence between Lycans. I think about putting it away. An odd book to be in this section, there has to be a reason for that. I begin flipping through the pages but yet, nothing useful. Just when I’m about to give up on it, I stop at a page and there it is.

Looking at the pile of presents in her room she decided she would open them and then go to bed. She sat on the floor opening the gifts one by one. There were soaps, perfumes, scarves, and candy in them. She smiled as she opened each one, her friends knew what she liked. As she came upon the last one, she noticed that it was wrapped in plain brown paper and had no name on it to tell her who it was from. She shrugged and started to open it; it was a box which she thought was weird but opened it anyway. When she opened it, she screamed, inside was a bloodied note stuck to a picture of a wolf. The note read: “We know your secret, little wolf. Your big bad Lycan can’t protect you anymore.
