Something that existed before we understood it. “We’re not building anymore,” I said quietly. “No.” “We’re inside something else.”

Which was not the same as before. Was more than before. The two not being contradictory. Not tonight. Not in this room. Not with the fire doing the irreducible thing that only the real kind did.
