There's Something There That Wasn't There Before Novels & Stories

Something that had never been part of the system. Something even the creators had never mentioned. The silver crack appeared again. This time, it did not disappear. It widened. And from the other side, someone stepped through.

A sentence that changed everything. "It's coming back." The crack widened. Reality screamed. And somewhere beyond existence itself, something awakened.

Something about this wasn’t over. Not by a long shot.

"Now. Before Eric figures out what just happ ened and does something we can't undo."

“You just appeared out of nowhere.” He didn’t pretend not to understand. “We’ve been watching the edges for weeks,” he said. “There are signs before awakenings. Things that stop singing all at once. Tracks that don’t belong. The air goes… still. Somebody had to be where you were before someone else was.” “Someone else.” The phrase landed like cold water. “As in… more not-entirely-human people? Things?” He let out a small breath that wasn’t quite a laugh. “The forest isn’t empty, Aria.”

He just stayed there like my answer didn’t change anything for him. “We are not here to argue,” he said. “We are here because the shift already happened. We felt it before we arrived.” My brows tightened slightly. “What shift?” I asked. He hesitated for a second before answering, like he was trying to choose words carefully. “The Hollow is gone,” he said. “But something replaced what it was holding back. We feel it across every territory.” My hand curled slightly at my side without me noticing. That shouldn’t have been possible. Not the way he was describing it. The Hollow leaving should have ended things, not created something new.

Marcus set his wine glass down. "It's not what you're turning it into" He stopped. Ran a hand over his jaw. "How long?" Not a question. I had always been better at not-questions. They were harder to deflect. His mouth tightened. "That's not really the" "How long, Marcus?" The sentence neither of us could unsay was already in the room. I felt it, the particular atmospheric change that preceded the thing we'd both been circling, the before and after with no returning to the version of reality that preceded it.

--- A silence followed. But it wasn’t heavy. --- For the first time in a while… It felt like something had moved forward. --- Not everything. Not completely. But something. --- And sometimes… That’s where real change begins.

Side by side. No one speaks. But something has already changed. Something that will not be undone.

Something that was never meant to come out. And now it has.
