If we were better people, less screwed up, we’d probably be able to say something like I love you, or So glad to be together again, or a slightly more macabre Thank fuck you’re not dead. But we both stay silent, because that’s what we do. We both know the unsaid, because that’s who we are.

Long enough to return to her when the timing was perfect. "That's fair." She nodded. No more words were said. But I could feel the shadow of our unspoken words. It was haunting the moment. Forcing us into unwilling silence. Which one of us would be brave enough to say what should be said? None of us. We were both too broken to even save whatever was left of us right now. So with my million unspoken words, I turned to leave. I barely took two steps and it was as far as I could go without saying shit. So I went in for a hug, crushing her in my arms.
