Thalia hesitated again. Then— “Small things,” she said. “At first.” Her fingers tightened slightly. “Like what?” “…Things breaking,” she said. The elders exchanged a glance. “I didn’t touch them,” she added quickly. “They would just… crack. Or fall. Or stop working.” “And you didn’t question it?” the older man asked.

“Could he have noticed all this?” Just then, a memory flashed through my mind and soured my mood, killed my urges, and left me a broken girl again.
