"I hadn't controlled you." "No," he said. "You hadn't." "The plan worked," I said. "And then it became something else. And then it became something I couldn't have planned for." I held his gaze. "I don't regret making it. I needed it to survive. Without it I wouldn't have walked into this estate and none of this would exist." I paused. "But I'm glad it failed to stay a plan." He looked at me for a long moment. "What would it have been," he said quietly, "if it had stayed a plan?"

I did not remember folding it. I pulled on my clothes slowly, thinking through the night, trying to make sense of where I was and what came next. I had told myself before any of this started that it would be simple. One night, one payment, and then I would go home and figure out the rest of my life. That was the plan. I was good at plans. What I was not good at was what happened when a plan started to feel more complicated than it looked on paper.

I scoffed, knowing that my plan B was the only option at this point. “I’ll move on with plan B” I affirmed my words as Lucas inquired; “What’s plan B?” “You don’t need to know my friend Lucas, there’s a lot that you don’t need to know. Just be at my beck and call” I divulged as he wore a smile on his face.

I needed a plan. Because one thing was certain— There was no way I was letting this be the end.

This is the first time that this has happened unplanned. I can see why she could have been taken aback by what happened. I didn't anticipate that. That also irritates me. However, I am aware that this will occur at some point in the future. Simply put, I didn't prepare because I didn't anticipate the enemy's lightning-fast work. They altered their tactics, and I was unprepared. I'm certain this is all my freaking responsibility because I failed to make a plan B. I was too preoccupied with how I felt about Nishane right then. I don't think about what might occur. I became too relaxed. I wasn't intending to harm her in this way.

He was there and then he wasn’t. I sat in the linen cupboard and I cried without making any noise at all. I’d gotten good at that too. By morning I had a plan. It wasn’t a good plan. I want to be upfront about that. It was the plan of a person who had approximately six hours of linen-cupboard floor time to work with and no resources and no allies she was certain of and a pack that was about to shift underneath her feet in ways she couldn’t fully predict. But it was a plan.

And things are definitely not going the way I planned it out to be. Things aren’t going the way I planned. “…What the hell am I gonna do?”

Just like was outlined in what I had thought were fairytales. I wasn’t planning to be someone’s dinner today.
