“You don’t get to chase it, Thomas. Not again. You hear me? You think the pit wants you? It doesn’t. It chews, it swallows, it spits bones. That’s all it does.” He pushed up from the couch, swaying but stubborn, facing me with that same raw fire that made the crowd chant his name. “You’re scared,” he said. The words sliced straight through me. I lunged forward, fisting his collar, dragging him close until our noses almost touched. “Of course I’m scared,” I snarled. “You think I want to watch you die? You think I want to see your blood mixing with the floorboards until the pit doesn’t even remember your name?”

The Black Wolf eats your gold while he sells your secrets to the south!” A few people stop. Heads turn. “He sits in his tower, plotting!” Thomas screams, really getting into it. “He banished his own mate to cover his crimes! The grain you eat is tainted with Redmaw sorcery!”

She explained to him all about the evil that has been roaming the earth and now had landed there in Georgia. It wasn’t the first time Thomas had heard anything about evil roaming the streets. Being in the bible belt everyone spoke like that, but this girl hadn’t given him the fire and brimstone act. He saw the truth in her eyes, and that was what he was afraid. When Thomas asked to speak with her mother, she became very quiet and whispered that he couldn’t because she was already dead.

Although it was pleasing to the ear, it was all the more frightening because there was no emotion. Thomas was shaking his head like a child. There was pain etched on his face and Bert could see that Alexander retained possession of his fist. Alexander’s knuckles weren’t white; he didn’t look as if he was exerting any pressure at all, yet Thomas’s face grew grey and he began a low-pitched moan that quickly rose to a cry. Alexander bent his dark head toward the man and whispered something Brice couldn’t hear, but Thomas ceased to weep, managing only a moaning whimper. His eyes remained fixed on Alexander’s face, eyes filled with horror and sheer terror.

At the end of the corridor, the shadows seemed to move unnaturally, coiling and shifting like living things. “What’s that?” she whispered to herself fearfully, staring at the shadows carefully. “Diva!” Derek’s voice cut through the oppressive silence, and she turned to see him striding toward her, his expression tense. “What are you doing out here?” “There was a crash. Something isn’t right, Derek. There’s something… in this house,” she said, her voice trembling. Derek’s gaze darkened, and for the first time, she saw something close to fear in his eyes. “Go back to your room,” he ordered. “Now.”

"They are too frail and lack the experience to be assassins. Hence, I expect you to entertain me longer than them." An abrupt sound of sharp metal scratching against benches can be heard. It's as if the grim reaper has come to take his life. When Thomas's fear takes over, he unconsciously mutters, "I'm sorry... there is no way I could win against this monster. Please forgive my cowardice, Elder Tessa; I have no choice but to withdraw on my own." Driven by his self-distrust, Thomas flees from Selina, abandoning the rescue mission for the sake of his survival. The exit door is just a few steps away from Thomas; he only needs a little push to open it and be freed from Selina’s catch.

Neil said glaring at him. Thomas was terrified now. He felt as if he could his pants would be wet at any moment. But he somehow managed himself, gulped down his saliva. And said, stammering, "Th…tha..thats m.. my.. eld.. no.. I mean that's my younger daughter. Eld…elder's over their" while pointing at Katherine. Katherine was confused. She was trying to understand what was happening but everytime she tried she failed and was petrified more than before. Neil seemed like a monster to her.
