The day I picked up the divorce certificate, the sun was bright. Mason looked like all his strength had been pulled out of him. He stared at me from across the lobby and didn't say anything. I had thought the divorce would be the end of it. He hung on me like a ghost. He took an extended leave from the squad and parked himself at the front door of my building. He stood outside with roses in his hand and apologized to me in the same words, every day.

Just a few more days. That’s it. Wednesday… I’m out. And I can’t wait.

“If I get to pick the three days.” My blood instantly turned cold. One of the reasons I settled on the three days was to hope it would fall on the weekend. “And which days are those?” I asked, shoulders tightening. Zane shrugged. “They aren’t set. Could be Monday to Wednesday one week, could be another day next week.” I froze. Great. Now, I’d be crossing my fingers, holding my breath begging it wouldn’t fall on the days I didn’t want it to. And I’ll be doing this. Every. Single. Week.

It was indeed a great day for us, one that wasn’t scarred with concerns of psycho exes and crazy mobsters. How I wish to have more days like this.

It was another day, but not just another day. A day of sadness? A day where I'm gonna realize I can cry like an infant. Yes, D-Day. During the rest of the ten days, I had to make sure to give Matthew the best life, I had made sure no hour passed without seeing him smile, and even though his legs were swollen and he could hardly walk on his own, I had always given him a piggyback whenever we're out of the house and I've never been tired of that.
