She used its physical thread. She had a small spool of ordinary, brown thread she used for repairs. She took it and, while pretending to meditate, she let a long piece drift from her fingers onto the immaculate lawn. She didn't form a picture. She just made a loose, messy tangle. A tiny snarl of imperfection in a world of order. Then, she went inside and waited.

Jolene, or whoever was above her in this, had felt it. I leaned back slowly. We hadn’t unraveled anything. We’d exposed ourselves. "We pulled the wrong thread," I said. Marcus looked up. "Now it knows we're looking."

"The assumption was always that everything reset." The projection continued. "New universe." Another cycle. "New people." Another cycle. "New history." Another cycle. The pattern repeated over and over. Then Mira pointed toward one specific thread. A tiny thread hidden beneath the others. One that stretched through every cycle. The same thread. Unbroken. Instead, she just held her cheek and gave Julian a wounded look. She whimpered, "Julian, what's happened to Delilah? Why is she acting this way?" "Delilah! Have you lost your mind? You're acting like a madwoman!" Julian exploded, shoving me so hard that I fell to the ground. Still recovering from childbirth, the fall caused intense pain in my abdomen, and I started bleeding again. I winced, realizing too late that I had not had a chance to clean up after my checkup.

More focused. Tomorrow, we would start pulling threads. And I would not stop until the whole thing unraveled.
