I haven’t had one since I fled the night of my sister’s mating. I peer both ways and then peel left, wandering along the house until I reach the living room window a dozen or so paces from the front door. Palming the glass, I try to hoist it up—nothing, not even a quiver. I step to the next window beside it and try again but come to the same conclusion.

I stumble backward, my body screaming in protest as I try to move, try to think, try to survive. There’s no time or space. Nowhere to run. The window. It’s the only option, the only chance. My heart pounds wildly as I turn, half-running, half-stumbling toward it, every step sending fresh waves of pain tearing through my body. I can feel him behind me. My hand slams against the glass and I don’t stop. I throw myself forward. The window shatters on impact. Glass explodes around me in a storm of jagged shards, slicing into my arms, my face, my skin as I crash through it.

Thomas looked me in the eye and seemed to understand what I meant. _____________ I'll do anything to stop him...” He sighed. I looked down at the floor, trying to quell all those worries in my head. I let out another sigh. It was then that another projectile hit the window. Finally the tempered glass gave way and then broke into thousands of pieces, a burly, bald man emerged amidst the smoke from the rubble, he had a patch of black cloth covering his face, only his eyes were showing, Thomas held on my arm and then whispered.

(Thomas) The morning sun streamed through the large windows of the mansion, casting a warm glow across the spacious living room. I stood by the window, looking out at the well-manicured gardens, my mind buzzing with excitement. Lydia's movie had just broken records for the opening week, and I knew it was time to celebrate in a way that showed her just how proud I was of her.

She's still holding my arms while talking and smiling with them. I pull my arm. She let it slip from her hold, my whole body tightens when her fingers brush on my strong skin. I hoist it up, " Yes," I glare afar through the glass window. The glass is bulletproof. I clench my hand as bullets hit the window continuously. something is really going on wrong. I release an exasperated sigh.

I move over to the window and have a look. There is nothing but trees everywhere outside, so that doesn’t help. Tell me where I am. I then look at the window itself. I smile. There are no bars going across the window and the lock is an old-style turn type. I try the lock and it surprises me that it opens. I then try to pull the window up, but unfortunately, it doesn’t move. I try again, only this time I change my position, hit and push up and smile as the window actually opens. I shift forward, eyes narrowing. Through the window, I can see the faint outline of a crib. Ariana’s shadow moves back and forth, slow, rhythmic, soothing. She’s singing. I can’t hear the words, but I know the melody. I press my hand against the cold windowpane of the car, fingers trembling. Something inside me twists tighter, darker. The glass fogs under my breath. I draw a line through it, just one, like I’m cutting the night in half. “Enjoy it while it lasts,” I murmur.
