Chapter 3- A Perfect Day Drrrrr! Crash! Bang! Melo was awoken by crashing and banging happening outside his room. What kind of ruckus is happening? He thought to himself. He slightly opened his eyes but all he saw were the lights peeking through his window blinds, beaming across the room. He scooted to the other side of the bed, facing his big glass window that is covered with white blinds. Then, he slipped two of his fingers in between the blinds and allowed just the right amount of light to pass through.

But he'd already pushed the door open and pulled me inside. The penthouse was dark except for the city lights streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Shadows and light played across expensive furniture and artwork. And standing by those windows, silhouetted against the glittering cityscape, was Ares. He turned as we entered, and even in the dim light I could see that infuriating smile on his face. "There she is," he said, his voice smooth as expensive whiskey. "The woman of the hour." I stood frozen just inside the doorway. Behind me, I see Ilias close the door and lean against it, arms crossed. Blocking my exit.

I stood gazing out the window in a state of utter apprehension struggling to fathom the very path that had led my life to this bleak dead end. The small wooden brown window with thin glass shatters, the place that had now become a permanent spot for me to sit and ruminate on things; ruminating on my entire existence on this Earth brought me some form of closure and comfort. It eased my internal pain and I felt everything was going to be just okay. The window that had bore witness to my bleak and sad life also bore my happiest moments.

My gaze settled on the window! I dragged the trash bin closer and flipped it. It wobbled under my weight, but I braced myself against the cold wall. The window was narrow and painted shut. I pushed. Nothing. I shoved harder. Creak. The frame popped open just wide enough for me to squeeze through. I dropped onto a bed of gravel and swallowed a scream. Catching my breath, I pushed myself to my feet and limped my way around the property, toward the main road. My phone vibrated with another text.

I feel like another layer of reality is appearing with the one I’m in now, interspersing with everything until two worlds are colliding. Meanwhile, Diamond is just flicking to the third and last photo. This one is taken a little closer to the warehouse, right below one of the biggest busted windows. From this angle, the light is very clear. It’s crisp and bright, to the point where it’s a wonder why the residents of the nearby village never noticed it before.

I hurry to the window and look out. I don’t see him or any indication that he’s around. I secure the window and pick up the paper.
