His back was turned to me and he was looking out the window. I thanked the gods that I didn’t meet his eyes. I think right there I would have crumbled. But seeing his back, being reminded that all I would ever see is this man’s back made me angrier. It helped me look back down at the page and fight through the pain that now hammered in my heart.

With a groan, I smash the stone through the window beside the door. The glass shatters. I reach through carefully, unlocking the door from the inside and pushing it open. Finally. I really hope the journal is here. Dusting my hands, I enter inside the building. The entire place looks so empty and there are cobwebs hanging from the roof and windows. On my right, the wall cabinets are dusty, their glass doors reflecting the weak sunlight coming through the broken windows. Far ahead, the examination table in the center of the room is covered with a white sheet that is also dusty and filled with cobwebs.

A closet I hoped to God wasn't filled with only items for the male gaze, because I simply wouldn't give it a second glance. “Do you like what you see?” I heard Anna's voice behind me. I lifted a finger to her, a gesture for her to give me a second, as I walked towards the window. Peeking through it stole my breath away. The view was one I didn't expect to find in a strange place like this. There were mountains, hills with little houses atop, and green forests. There was even a waterfall somewhere in-between. I could spend my entire day by the window, staring through it.

I end up falling asleep to tat thought. I open my eyes and see the window open, snow and wind was flowing in. I slowly walk towards it. I look out and see scratch marks all over the window cell. I felt a shiver go up my spine, not because of the cold, but because I knew I wasn't alone.

Unaware of my thoughts, Nevaeh lowers her arms back down and turns to gather her book. My eyes stay glued to her profile as she walks back into the house. I don’t know if it’s wishful thinking, but before she walks into the house, she turns around and looks at my window again. I’d like to believe that what I am seeing in her eyes is longing, but it’s just wishful thinking on my part.

I hurriedly open the door and plop down on the bed. I pillow both hands below my head as I watch above at the blue sky through the roof made up of glass. The snow is still falling heavily like the night I had met her. I don’t know but when I watch the view of snow falling on the glass window, I feel as if I am hypnotized and realize that the snow is now blocking all the lights coming through that roof. I turn my head and watch outside through the window just like that.
