I whispered. The charm sank into my skin. It didn’t pierce. It spread. Like ink in water. Cold and dark and permanent. The power settled deep, coiling tight. My vision cleared. In the reflection of the glass railing, my eyes stared back. Amber. Ringed faintly with black. Nyx smiled, satisfied. “Good girl,” she said. She waved her hand and an image bloomed in the air. Vera and Gabriel, moving fast through trees. A research compound crouched ahead, half-hidden by forest and steel.

I immediately bolted for the room. Why is Nyx panicking?

When she dropped her little baby girl off at the human hospital in Montana, she named her Nyx Aurora. Her little girl's hair changed from black to blond but her Emerald green eyes stayed the same. Her pointed ears rounded off to look like human ears. Luna kissed her daughter goodbye as the nurse took her and then she ran back to the portal and closed it off to the Windfall Kingdom, for as long as it would stay closed.

Nyx materializes, her Fae glamour shimmering slightly in the fading light. "Are you certain about this?" she asks, her voice low and musical. "Once we set this in motion, there's no turning back." I laugh, the sound harsh and brittle. "I've never been more certain of anything in my life. Do it." Nyx nods, her fingers weaving an intricate pattern in the air. Silvery threads of magic coalesce, forming a shimmering web that settles over the clearing where Xander and Lyra stand. To the untrained eye, nothing has changed. But I know better.

“Wait. How do you know all this?” I met his eyes. “I’ve met my sister. A few times. And Nyx also has a secret phone. Only outgoing calls. No one can reach her unless she wants them to.” He studied me for a long second. Then asked calmly, “Why didn’t she leave? She had chances. Even after she thought Renz was gone. Why stay?” I exhaled. “Because she’s been pretending. Isolation is just a cover.” I leaned forward. “Nyx has been building allies underground. Some from Renz’s establishments, old hotels and even clubs. Quiet people who still owed him loyalty. She doesn’t want Gabe dead.”

Shadow snarled beneath that anger, eager to turn around and tear through every mile between them and his territory. And Nyx stood at attention, a little bit torn. Because she considered Myles and Derek her people, too. They were already connected, already formed a packlink, even though they weren’t technically from the same pack. But Nyx made up her mind, and paced restlessly inside her, tugging her focus back to the dark stretch of forest ahead. “We can’t go there now,” she said quietly. Zeke’s gaze snapped to hers. For a second, she thought he would argue. His pack was just as important as her father. Then he looked back at the trees.

She rambled in a high-pitched voice. Kieran. The name sent a ripple through me, but before I could fully process it, something even more astonishing happened –Nyx. I FELT Nyx. She wasn’t just a distant hum in my mind. Now, I could feel her, stronger and clearer. “Want to see something cool?” Nyx asked excitedly, her voice bubbling with enthusiasm. “Close your eyes.” I hesitated for only a moment before obeying, closing my eyes. And then–

“You’ll like this one, I promise.” She stepped back, raising her hands as she whispered an incantation. Her magic shimmered in the air, swirling around her like a gentle breeze. The stars above seemed to respond, twinkling brighter, and then—one by one—meteors began to streak across the sky, leaving trails of light in their wake. Harrison’s eyes widened, his breath catching as he took in the breathtaking display. “Nyx… it’s beautiful.” Nyx lowered her hands, her gaze fixed on him. “I wanted to give you something special. Something to remind you of tonight.”

‘Tease.’ He smirked. ‘Your tease.’ “Okay, Nyx is very large, I may need some space.” I said. I step back from Aiden and kneel on the ground. Nyx pulls the shift and this time it is a lot easier. When she finally appears, Mia, Luca and Dr. Higslee have wide eyes and smiles on their faces. “Fascinating! Simply marvelous!” Dr. Higslee said happily. “Well, doc. Are you ready for me to pull away?” Nyx said.
